We loved Alert Bay Lodge. It's rather quirky and clearly a labour of love for the owners Nina and Scott. There is an amazing communal space where you will find some really interesting objects and First Nations art. As well as comfy sofas and a lovely fire, tea and coffee is available. It is a wonderful open area to spend the evenings. From here you can access a veranda with incredible views over the water.
The location is amazing, we saw orca in the water right outside the lodge!
Nina and Scott are very friendly and engaging hosts. There was some healthy competition going on between them with their breakfasts.
We had an early excursion on our first morning so Scott made us breakfast rolls to go, which were great. On our second morning we had pancakes made by Scott which were very nice but on our third morning we had pancakes made by Nina which were sublime (sorry Scott)
We loved our stay here and would definitely return.

This one-bedroom house on the bluff overlooking the harbour with amazing views was a superb location for our 3 night stay on Cormorant Island. Cormorant is a magical place and the Village of Alert Bay is amazingly welcoming and friendly. We attended the 65th Anniversary celebration of the local library/museum, toured U'Mista Cultural Centre, walked the Ecological Park trails and soaked in the local atmosphere in the Village shops, shopped for gifts at Culture Shock where you can find the best coffee in the Bay.

Visiting Alert Bay and the Umista Cultural Centre is a must-do for any BC resident. the history and story of the Kwawakuwak (spelt better) is important and the community and island are beautiful. Don't forget Culture Shock on the dock - a great shoppe with local artisan's work and amazing folks who run it. the giftshoppe at Umista is also wonderful...
had great food @ pemba's kitchen and also the Bayside Inn Cafe for breakfast... go hiking, go explore - it's amazing

Access to Alert Bay is by one of the new BC Ferries from Port McNeill. The ferry is a very smooth 40 min ride. The people we encountered were very friendly and helpful. Do not miss the U'Mista Cultural Centre which was very interesting and one highlight of our visit. We also saw the world's tallest totem pole which is 173 feet tall, and enjoyed many wonderful views around the island, which is not very large.

Magical.
Magical. To feel Alert Bay/Yalis, one needs to spend time in the U'Mista Cultural Centre and wandering around and talking to local First Nations people, all of whom we found very open and friendly and willing/interested to talk about and share their culture.

This is a magical village - perhaps half First Nations, half European non-indigenous - working together. More carved totem poles and other carvings around the village than I have seen anywhere in the Pacific Northwest (including Haida Gwaii). We spent five nights/six days there, seemed just right to visit the world-renowned U'mista Cultural Centre, wander the village and spend some time bush-walking through the forests on the "back-side" of the island. We spent one day on a very worthwhile and satisfying bear and other wildlife tour boat, lead by First Nations guides, ending up with an impromptu guided tour of U'mista, an unforgettable experience with people who know and have been affected. We felt it a privilege and it was deeply moving to visit the cultural centre, a special place for the repatriation of sacred First Nations artifacts. We walked, easily, everywhere, no need for a car, in fact, I believe a car would be a bother and a hindrance. The Seine Boat Inn was a tremendous place to stay - ask for one of the two fully self-contained suites perched over the water with their own decks to the sunset.

Alert Bay is a small island that is rich in First Nations culture and history. The U’mista Culture Centre is a must see, a board walk along the waterfront takes you through town and past the burial ground with several old totem Poles.
I was there mid week and a lot of eating places were closed so bring your own snacks, maybe more is open on the weekend.

For the two days we were there, we saw just about everything we wanted to but would have enjoyed spending more time at each place. Local people were very friendly and we probably learned more about the history and life in Alert Bay just from talking to people.

Amazing location, we could see orcas from the terrace, which is also beautifully decorated with flowers. The rooms are nice and comfortable. The hotel is just a a few minutes from the ferry terminal. Just for information, room 102 has some cooking facilities but no hob, it has a microwave, kettle, coffee maker, toaster, a little sink, fridge and utensils.
Wooden suite above the water with a 180° window view of the bay and the strait.Excellently equipped with amenities and kitchen utensils and absolutly clean. Wonderful staff who seem to enjoy having guests and sharing their knowledge and experiences about the island.
Adventuring Alert bay is a unique experience...we will definitely come again.
This is probably in the top 3 hotels I've ever stayed in. Everything was perfect. The building itself, the view, the hospitality, the rooms, the beautiful flower garden along the porch, etc. I have only good things to say about this place and we will be returning sometime.
Great stay, friendly staff, good location. While the hotel itself is a bit outdated, it makes it quite charming and authentic and we felt at home! Self access to coffee, tea etc. no matter the time of day with great sea views!
The view of the ocean was incredible, the staff were very friendly, and the rooms were cozy and clean! A lovely and peaceful stay overall! I would definitely stay here again and recommend to others going to Alert Bay.
Staff was wonderful and interested in our comfort and experience. The breakfast buffet was great and it felt like home. The location couldn't be better. We enjoyed the boutique feel of the hotel and our room.
Pemba and William were excellent hosts and extremely helpful and friendly. Pemba is an excellent cook and I will definitely make another trip up to Alert Bay just to visit them and stay here again.
Don’t let the simple exterior fool you, this is an AMAZING hotel with a GREAT view while you eat and PHENOMENAL food and service by the LOVELY couple - Paula and Pablo - who own and run the place!
We had a lovely stay at this property. Located next to the ferry terminal with amazing water views, we were able to really unwind and relax. We loved it here. Staff are really kind and helpful.
Great hosts, loved the location, breakfast was cozy with a fantastic view. The hotel is on pilings, like right on the water. The weather was fantastic when we were there in early August 2021.
This home was in a perfect location to explore Alert Bay. The views were spectacular, everything was within walking distance and the kitchen had the basic necessities.
We absolutely loved our stay at the Seine Boat Inn! Very comfortable and clean, the location was great and the view was beautiful. Hope to return again sometime...
Great location in the heart of Alert Bay. Great food at the restaurant and pub is a really good time. The property is old but with that comes charm and character!
