YOU HAVE TO TRY THE KAVARMA! We were there for 3 nights and we had the kavarma 4 times! We even got the recipe!
The host is so sweet and always greeted us with a big smile! At the end we shook his hand and thanked him for a great stay!
The rooms are enormous, with radiators and air con. They were very clean and cosy.
We also enjoyed the small garden and the location in the beautiful mountains. The monastery is also really close and there are multiple hiking routes from there!

The property is situated at a perfect location in the mountains and close to a river at the same time. There was a lot of green space which is always great when you want to go for a walk or just to relax. The hosts were also amazing and the food that they cooked was perfect! It was all with home grown vegetables 🙌 and the menu was very healthy and clean which we loved. I would also recommend trying their herbal teas and honey. 🍯 The place is also perfect for those who are into stretching, yoga, 🧘♀️ cold dips 🥶 in the river or just for people who are very nature oriented and are looking for a stress free environment. Would definitely recommend visiting this place! The energy is super positive.

There was enough to see at the monastary, even though most museums there seemed no to be open (it was February!). Entrance is free but be ready to pay 5 levs for parking (you do get all day for that).
The area has dramatic scenery with some other things to see other than just the Monastary.
We visited the grave of James Baucher and discovered why Sofia has a station named after this Irishman!

We take all our foreign guests to visit the Monastery.
We take all our foreign guests to visit the Monastery. It is iconic. The parking cost 5 Leva, but there is no entry fee to the Monastery. The two museums in the monastery require an entry fee, but are worth the price. Make sure that you see the clock tower bells that ring on the hour. Behind the Monastery is a little fast food place that sells a Bulgarian treat called "makitsa", it costs 1 Lev and even the Bulgarians will tell you that is the best "makitsa" in the country.

In the warmer months,go early, as in be there by 10AM.
In the warmer months,go early, as in be there by 10AM. Afterwards it gets very crowded by Noon. Avoid the weekends and holidays if possible. There is a 5LV parking fee. Admission is free to the church-no photos inside. There are 4 museums each with a 4 LV charge. The exterior murals are from the late 19th C. The main beauty is the exterior of the church and it's grounds.
The back entrance and parking area is heavily commercialized, however there is a stand there making fresh hot donuts. They are as close to heaven as you'll get!

Check the Internet for Rila monastry.
Check the Internet for Rila monastry. They do have an excellent website.
It is worth the visit. Mind that it is a 30 min drive from the interstate each way. Accomodation quality seems questionable in the area. at least my negative experience with Gorski Kut was horrible.

The tour of the monastery was fantastic.
The tour of the monastery was fantastic. Because we stayed right next to the monastery we were there early do got an individual tour of the ethnography rooms and icon room. Place is a lovely visit anyway but seeing it without the crowds is fantastic. (Go early or stay late!)

Rila Monastery is one of the Icons of the region!
Rila Monastery is one of the Icons of the region! It contains everything: culture, history, nature, religion - you name it!
Unfortunatelly for the surrounding structures - some of them are not maintained very well which need to be improved (this is valid for the roads too). However the region is with Must Visit state for me.

I stayed there for a night with my parents. Lovely family hotel; small but clean rooms, great customer service.
Worth having dinner at the restaurant, fresh and tasty. Breakfast was perfect. If I go back in the area I’ll definitely stay there again.
The staff was friendly and one spoke English. The location is beautiful, very close to the Rila Monastery and good restaurants nearby. The hotel feels like it has great potential, or perhaps once was a nice hotel... but has deteriorated massively.
Room was big and the hotel has the best location in the middle of the mountains. Also the personal, specially the two young ladies, are superhelpful and do the best they can with the little resources the hotel apparently has.
