Shkoder is a great place. It is not a tourist theme park but a real city. The pedestrianised streets with their bars, cafes and restaurants are very pleasant. There is a great atmosphere. Full of people having a good time, which is nice to see. There are lots of reminders of Albania's communist past, and several eloquent monuments to it. As a post-Communist place, Shkoder is very interesting indeed and the museum which shows you the detention cells is not to be missed. Nor are the churches which were converted to sports halls; the diocesan museum is small but fascinating. There are a lot of shabby even ruined buildings some of which are being done up; but that is living history for you.

Interesting place in Albania, Shkoder is a medium sized city, modest but with a lovely and lively historical center full of tourists. As a particularity, the people from Shkoder bike everywhere, I don't believe I have seen so many locals biking since The Netherlands. There are not many supermarkets and those there are medium sized with a poor variety of foods and goods. On the other hand the bakeries are great with many options and also the fruit in the street ofer a nice variety. We were able to pay in euros in 95% of places. The trafic is hell, like in the rest of the country. We chose Shkoder for 2 nights because we made a one day trip to Teth and also a one day trip to Komani Lake + Shala River, and Shkoder offers acces to both destinations.

Lovely city, with a cafe bar atmposphere.
Lovely city, with a cafe bar atmposphere. Everyone is so friendly and do their best with English speaking to help. There is a relaxed feel to the city and nobody seems stressed out and in a rush.
The castle is well worth the visit and has stunning views. THe lake is also lovely to visit.
It is also cheap and better to eat out to enjoy the experience than staying in.

I loved the lake view we had from the balcony of our B&B.
I loved the lake view we had from the balcony of our B&B. Our objective was to relax, and we really did. It was an easy walk down to the lakeside where we were treated to many varieties of birds and even saw schools of fish coming near the shore to feed in the evening. The area around Bella Vista had a number of good places to eat and (in town) a broad walkway for strolling and bicycling. The roads weren't great, but otherwise the location was fabulous. It was a good base for exploring the Rozafa Castle, the Mesi Bridge, and other cities further into the mountains. Having a car was a must, as we didn't see much public transit.
The hotel is located at a great location to visit Shkoder. There is a paid parking just around the corner of the hotel, and the hotel itself is in the pedestrian zone of the city. For a city walk, the location is perfect. But for a castle visit, you most likely will need a taxi or, of course, a bike. Our room was very spacious and offered good air conditioning, which was really welcome. The rest of the hotel was really just OK. We did not really see the staff, neither did we really know what the expect as this was our first visit to Albania.
The Shala river is a must do if you are in the north of Albania. It is stunning here. The hotel is in such a beautiful location that it’s hard not to love it. The staff were really friendly and helpful.
Yes, the prices of the hotels/food/drinks here are more expensive than other parts of Albania but that is because they are truly in the middle of nowhere and only accessible by boat! Plus, the prices are still very cheap if compared to Western Europe. My partner and I had a great time here!
Everything was amazing, if I will come again to shkoder I'll definitely reserve in that hotel, it's a new family business and Ariston the owner and his wife are amazing and helpful people, you feel like you are home with high degree of professionalism.
The location is in the heart of the main street, with amazing prices, everything new in the hotel, the owner helped us in our day trips planning and connecting us with a very good tour guide.
Lovely apartment and very clean on arrival. The host was incredibly accommodating and very helpful at each stage of the process. The apartment was stocked with water, toilettries and a selection of teas, which was a lovely touch
The apartment is in a perfect location for all of the wonderful sights to see in Shkoder and very close to a variety of wonderful restaurants for traditional Albanian food. Highly recommend.
Hotel Tradita is a great hotel to explore Shkoder. The hotel itself is very cosy, with a nice middle square where you can have breakfast, lunch and diner. The latter is very nice because of the live music and the cosy atmosphere. Upon request, they even made a take away breakfast for us. The rooms are well equipped, clean and in a traditional style. The hotel is situated close to the city center.
Beautiful and peaceful hostel/ guest house / mention close to the old city center of Shkoder. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, providing the best tips and addresses to enjoy the town and your stay in Albania. The house itself is incredible (also perfectly clean and well furnished) with a beautiful history. Big common areas and cool garden. Good vibes and beautiful heart. Thank you.
The room was modern and comfortable, easily the best we stayed in while in Albania although on the smaller side and more expensive than other places we stayed - but scrupulously clean, with a lovely bathroom and a bed that was less firm than others we had experienced (which we liked). The staff were friendly and helpful, and available all hours. The hotel felt more businesslike than touristy.
The hotel is in the heart of Shkoder, just near the bus stop with buses to Tirana and buses to Montenegro.
The hotel is super clean and the staff are very welcoming and helpful. They organised a wonderful day trip for us. They are always ready to help you with all the issues. Breakfast in the hotel was gorgeous. I would highly recommend this property if you plan a visit to Shkoder.
It is a beautiful hotel right in the city centre with a lot of restaurants around. It’s bustling with life. We were given a beautiful, spacious room with a street view. Most importantly, the people who run the hotel are some of the kindest people we have met in Albania. They helped us to organize our journey to Theth, always with a smile, despite language barriers.
The hotel manager is really nice, he gives you free coffee and lights up when you know the tiniest bit of Albanian language. We read the other reviews and it is correct that the hotel could do with a splash of paint. But the hotel is really cheap and you get worth for the money you pay. The hotel has a pool, which is a big plus!!
Everything is wonderful, from the view to the delicious and traditional food.
The waitresses are very friendly and nice and the place has great conditions.
They helped us to manage transport to the paradise of Shala river
We had the best meal in Albania there, like a feast!
if you are going to Shkoder stay there, best place!
Wonderful hotel and Jolanda With Front reception was so kind and helpful with restaurant suggestions and arranged a private car to take us to airport. No direct bus service from Shkodër to Tirana airport.
Water provided in room with kettle for hot water. Comfortable room with nice bathroom.
The lady was helpful, text to see if I needed anything, people were nice, it was near for taxi's, buses, food, everything was close, and accessible, would go back again when I return to Albania, and Shkoder, a beautiful place.A bit noisy, but in the centre of the city, it's to be expected
Very new, modern hotel with a nice inner garden, and great breakfast (recommending the pancakes). Good beds and air conditioning that doesn't blow right into your face when sleeping. Also one of the few hotels we had in Albania with bedside lamps (much appreciated).
best you can get for a short stay in a very average city (not the hotel’s fault)
receptionist was lovely, informative and friendly. room was spacious and clean. hotel is a bit dated but this wouldn’t put me off as it’s the norm in Albania.
This place is a gem. We LOVED the location and the view, and while the room is a bit basic, it's priced very fairly. The staff were very warm and accommodating, but do have your translation app available if you're not an Albanian speaker.
