The Riverside Inn, hotel in Chelmsford

The Riverside Inn is a converted 17th-century mill situated on the River Chelmer, just 5 minutes’ walk from Chelmsford town center and Rail Station.

Value for money. Decent sized rooms with everything you needed. Most of the staff were nice enough. I wouldn’t say friendly, but they did the job politely.

Holiday Inn Southend, an IHG Hotel, hotel in Chelmsford

Holiday Inn Southend features an on-site fitness suite and a sound-proofed rooftop bar and restaurant.

I was meeting up with family and friends - the hotel was a perfect location. But once I stayed at the Holiday Inn in Southend I want to go back next year to do the same. I was lucky with a special offer of free breakfast with my stay, that was a lovely bonus, everything in this hotel was so good, staff, room, cleanliness etc

Fantastic breakfast, Caroline was absolutely lovely and very accommodating. Lovely old building with many period features - however some things could do with modernisation, not sure how limited the landlord is with this due to being a listed building.

Loved the privacy of the rooms, all well thought out. My one gripe is when hotels do not have mirrors in front of dressing tables. This was obviously designed by a woman as not only did it have a large well lit mirror but plug points with easy access!! Well done! Bathroom was really spacious. We had a lovely stay and will definitely stay again.

It’s a lovely building. We used disabled parking and noticed there was a designated entrance for disabled guests, if required. We were offered help with our luggage. All the staff were lovely and helpful. The breakfast was amazing. Loads of choice. Best we have seen in a long time. (Would suggest a napkin is provided to hold fresh uncut bread for slicing)

The quality of the items were so high it was clear that the hotel owners have put an incredible amount of effort in providing a top range bed and amazing mattress - clearly very expensive, designer furnititure, curtains and decor - all in all very impressive - certainly not run of the mill. Breakfast were also very friendly.
