Superb location with a terrace overlooking the bay where we would see distant dolphins. HIghly recommend for families as the property is comfortable and has the extras you need like washing machine, larger drying rack, lots of pegs, extra quilts etc.! coffee machine. We had wetsuits so the drying room downstairs was perfect. The village itself has a lovely little harbour, superb free swimming pool (sea water) with great little burger bar, kids loved it. Within very easy reach of the main whale watching town Lajes. Walter the host was a very kind and attentive host who showed us down to the pool on arrival. Pico and this property have been wonderful !

Breakfast with typical products from Açores and a fascinating spot with vineyards and quiet.
The Adega do Mirante is located in the scenic Pico Island, in a restored old winery. The foot of Pico Mountain is a 25-minute drive away. The mountain is Portugal’s highest point.

Our Background
We come from the beautiful city of Munich and enjoy traveling the world. Given our demanding jobs, we tend to indulge in more extravagant vacations and are willing to pay above-average prices for high-quality accommodations. This does not mean we are spoiled, but cleanliness and proper maintenance are crucial for us to enjoy our limited vacation time.
About the Accommodation and Host
Unfortunately, this accommodation and its host do not belong to the types of places we would consider revisiting. To be honest, we fled the place after just one night. Luckily, we found refuge for the remaining three nights at the Azores Wine Company, which we highly recommend.
We traveled during the peak season, specifically at the end of August. Knowing that Pico offers limited accommodations and everything gets booked months in advance, we secured our booking early. The host was well aware of this scarcity and exploited it shamelessly. Four weeks before our trip, we received a message in Portuguese (which looked like a standard confirmation at first glance) informing us the air conditioning was broken. We could cancel without penalty but would not receive any discount. Realizing we had no alternative by then, we bit the bullet.
On-site Experience
Upon arrival, we realized that the small windows did not allow for any airflow, forcing us to keep the doors open to maintain a temperature below 30 degrees celsius. This, unfortunately, invited all sorts of pests, including mice, into the accommodation at night. Although we had four weeks to brace ourselves for such conditions, a bigger issue arose. Cottages are perfect for travellers who enjoy feeling cosy and independent in the countryside. Usually small, traditionally built houses, cottages spread across one or two floors, making them great for families, or holidays with a little more privacy.
Nice, cozy house in the countryside. Stunning views from the terrace.
Good place to relax if you need a break from big city life.
A small grocery shop just around the corner (appx. 3 min to walk),
It has the most important items, and totally the best bread in the Azores!
a bigger supermarket in the neighbourhood village (around 40 min to walk).
It’s possible to take a bus as well: busstop is very close to the house.
Otherwise it is ok with taxi.
And thank you for the washing machine - necessary when travelling longer.
This was perhaps the best holiday home we had ever stayed at. A completely newly renovated, cosy building which is amazingly cleverly thought out and easily accommodates a family of four, without compromises. The fully equipped kitchen, bathrooms and laundry rooms greatly exceeded our expectations (NOT typical holiday home level), the quality of the interior and the beautiful landscape we we saw from the terrace made our stay a very enjoyable one. The welcome gift and the seamless communication were nice additions.
12 years that we are using Booking.com on 5 continents and this accommodation is definitely in the top 3 ! Tje welcome and explanations were pwrfect, beautiful location in Pico countryside, with view on the see from the terrace, all possible equipment, very comfortable beds, modern bathrooms, nice living room and kitchen, le tout décoré avec goût…
we stayed only 2 nights but would have loved to stay the whole week !
The experience was seamless, from the instructions and welcome booklet to the communication with the host all throughout. The view from the cottage is breathtaking and exactly what you expect when on an island in the middle of the Atlantic. The cottage is perfectly equipped, from kitchen to tv and channel choices, Netflix etc if you get caught on a rainy day and want to relax. I would go back in a heart beat! Well done Salvador!!
