This accommodation exceeded all our expectations. As we were walking the Camino, we were collected from Alvorge by Marco. Maria, our host, had contacted us, explaining what was available at the Country House and what we'd need to bring. The rooms were comfortable and the house enormous with beautiful furnishings in an older style. Suited the building to a tee providing a warm atmosphere. We absolutely loved sitting by the pool in the incredible gardens. We were thankful to our host for also organising a taxi back to Alvorge so we could continue along the Camino.

The house as well as the entire property is absolutely gorgeous. The owners put a lot of attention to the details both inside the house and outside. Everything is amazingly well looked after, it is absolutely clean and very tidy. The house is equipped with everything that one could need and we felt very comfortable. The owners cared for us since the beginning with a proactive communication and even came to look after the pool in between to ensure it is all in order. Sadly we (a family of five with three kids aged 6, 8 and 11) only had time to stay for three nights, but we would love to come back for a longer stay in future. The village itself is very calm and there are some great ancient mosaics to discover in the local museum. And there is a lot more to experience in the area. The location was stunning, such tranquility and yet so much to see in the area. We came from Comporta, and next stop was Douro valley - villa Pedra did not disappoint at all. We arrived quite late because our rental car had to be exchanged - all restaurants were closed by the time we arrived but the fridge was stocked with local cheese, meats, fresh bread on the table and a bottle of red wine. We ate to the sound of cicadas. For the following nights, the hotel offered a dinner option which was refined and delicious. It felt like having our own personal chef. There is a pool area surrounded by fruit trees, vine covered granite walls and beautifully maintained lawn which offers a lovely place to relax and cool down from the heat. The pool was immaculate. I could go on - lovely walking trails through olive groves for miles around…friendly, courteous, professional staff. Best value I have experienced in a very long time.
