Helpful property manager (Mathushan) who was always around and willing to assist. Fantastic Jaffna breakfast served when ordered the night before. Clean indoor swimming pool (though not very deep) to help relieve from the Jaffna sun. Great rooms and bathroom. Interesting local art/photos on the walls as well.

From the moment I arrived, they went above and beyond—ensuring I had a trishaw from the bus station for my early morning arrival. The atmosphere was warm and homely, with casual conversations and complete transparency making the stay feel effortless. They even prepared meals of my choice and offered tea when they noticed I looked tired. Instead of knocking, they sent me a message when breakfast was ready—such thoughtful gestures. The delicious Jaffna food, paired with their incredible hospitality, made it a truly wonderful experience. Berty Cottages is the perfect place for a cozy, homely stay.

While the rooms and linen were well maintained, I must express some disappointment with the overall cleanliness, particularly the unhygienic state of the toilets. Unfortunately, the value for the price paid did not align with the subpar bathroom conditions, impacting the overall satisfaction of my stay.

Everything for our group of 4 adults.: the accommodation was spacious, clean, quiet, generous with drinking water, kitchen, laundry items etc. Location was walking distance to Nallur Temple and enough surrounding eateries, and 6km from the train station and town. Meandering streets were quiet. Nishaan, the owner manager, was responsive to all our queries and orientated us to sights. We also stayed a night at Borassus Nature huts on the fishing island ..bicycles and fun ...ask Nishaan

Berty and his wife are charming hosts and nothing is too much trouble for them. Their cooking is absolutely delicious - a delight to get enjoyed. The rooms are spacious and very clean. I had left my medicines in Colombo and Berty took me I to the pharmacy to have the replaced.
Their ho e is situated in a very quiet area and you wake to the sound of a variety of birds.
A very enjoyable and comfortable stay and I will definitely stay there again when I next return to Jaffna
The staff were very helpful. The pool was clean and a good size and the grounds are neatly kept. The bunkers were fascinating and the old parts of the property charming.
Our stay at Berty’s Cottage was outstanding. Berty and Hilda are wonderful people really helpful with anything we needed, train, tuk tuk & tours before and after we arrived. Food was delicious as we requested genuine Sri Lankan and my husband got great cooking tips in the kitchen with dinner. They even packed our breakfast because we had a very early departure. The accommodation and their home is very clean and we felt welcome in all living areas. Thank you Berty and Hilda for a wonderful visit to Jaffna.
Berty was a very amicable, courteous host in his home. Right from the start he helped in arranging pick up from the airport & a warm welcome at his place. Room was simple but quiet, clean and comfortable. Location excellent. Breakfast was fresh and well prepared. He also helped in organising tours around Jaffna and taxi service to Colombo. If you are looking for simple yet comfortable homestay in Jaffna, Berty Cottage is a gem of a place sure to satisfy most guests.
I had a wonderful stay at the hotel. The rooms were clean and cozy, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The central location allowed for easy exploration. While there wasn't a wellness area, the overall positive atmosphere was convincing. I would gladly recommend the hotel and look forward to my next visit
The house is down a quiet cul-de-sac, with a leafy garden and outside patio. Our room was large, with good size comfortable double bed. Air con, plus fan, plus mosquito net over bed. Plenty of sockets and good wifi. A lounge area with T.V. and dining area. Excellent delicious substantial breakfast. Allen was an extremely charming and helpful host, always willing to answer our questions, phone transport etc.
We really liked Betty’s Cottage and the owners were really nice. They booked our bus from Colombo to Jaffna which was a huge help, and they waited up until 4 am for us to arrive. We had only booked the place for the following night so they charged us half a day. The breakfast offered was fine, nothing to rave about. The WiFi is really good! The hosts are also nice and very dedicated to making sure we got everything we needed.
