My recent stay at Charming Dark Lodge in River was nothing short of exceptional, marking it as the best homestay experience I have ever encountered. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality that exceeded all expectations. The highlight of our stay was undeniably our incredible host, who spared no effort in ensuring our comfort and satisfaction. From delicious lunches and dinners to delightful surprises and the most mouth-watering fish barbecue - probably the best meal I have had in the two months I have been in Sri Lanka. Beyond the culinary delights, our room was a sanctuary of comfort and style. Immaculately clean, equipped with a kitchen containing everything one could possibly need, and beautifully built and decorated. Originally intending to stay for four nights, we found ourselves captivated by the charm of Charming Dark Lodge, extending our stay to twelve nights. Departing was bittersweet, as we had grown attached to the unparalleled hospitality and the tranquil ambiance of our temporary home. A particularly memorable moment was celebrating my birthday during our stay. Our host went above and beyond to ensure it was an unforgettable occasion, adding a personal touch that truly made me feel special. Without a doubt, if I ever find myself in Sri Lanka again, Charming Dark Lodge will be my first choice for accommodation. Its unmatched hospitality, and inviting ambiance have left an indelible mark on my travel memories. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a truly exceptional homestay experience in Sri Lanka.

Clean and cosy house, well equipped kitchen, a/c, good wi-fi, nice garden. The owners live in the other house on the same territory, but they never bothered and was very kind and helpful. Just you will need bike to reach the beach or main street, but it easy to rent. Good for long stay

I honestly can’t even list everything I liked there was so many things. But this place is an escape from the outside world where you are treated like royalty. I never want to leave! The hotel itself is spotless. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. The food is beautiful. The pool is perfect. The location is hidden but within walking distance to everything you need. Beach is small and is basically all yours. Sea turtles swim at the beach between the hours of 3-5. Beautiful to watch. I do a lot of travelling and this is by far the best hotel I have ever stayed at. I even extended my stay! Thank you so much to all who work here. I cannot wait to return!

Incredible people working at the Villa, Suresh and his team were so hospitable and went above and beyond to make sure we had the best possible experience. Beautiful Villa with stunning ocean views and pool overlooking the beach. The food was amazing and the Chef even allowed us to do a cooking class with him to learn how to make hoppers. Would highly recommend booking Three Gables Boutique Villa for a much more personal experience.

The place was very clean and beautifuly designed. Big rooms with private showers and balconies. Best shower I've had in Sri Lanka - hot water and water pressure was perfect. Very nice welcoming hosts. The beach is just 50m away from the villa, yet still far enough from all busy places - it hits the sweet spot of being close but not too close.

Beautiful Villa, it’s not a luxury villa, but a good villa for a family getaway, it’s well maintained to the naked eye. Great views as you can see from the pics but mind you there is no beach or access to the water. Tharanga the house manager was excellent and attentive. The land block houses 6 villas, we had friends in another villa for a bucks night and we used this villa to keep our baby, nanny, maid (safely) and us parents to sleep at night.

The staff went above and beyond to ensure we had an amazing stay. Kenny and the team deserve the highest of praise for their professionalism and exceptional hospitality. Breakfast was incredible and the pool and view fabulous. By far thee most well looked after gardens we encountered in all of Sri Lanka.

We stayed in the tree house one night and it was just beautiful, as the house is really unique in its construction. The host family was super welcoming, greeting us with a 0km breakfast and garden tour. The location - amid the forest - is slightly far from the main road, we would recommend a motorbike or tuktuk. Totally recommended!
