Myself, my wife and our four boys plus our dog spent a week here in July (during the heatwave….blessed with the weather! Judy met us on arrival and had brown bread scones ready! John and Judy are great hosts really nice friendly people, Judy walked us through the house and had lots of useful information about the area and what we could do with the kids, info about the beach, nearest towns, walks, waterfalls, small park near by and about nearest shop (just down the road and has everything you need if you are stuck for something) we had stopped off in Ballinrobe (30 mins away from house) and into lidl to do a bit of a shop before we arrived. We also visited Westport (30 mins away from house) a few times on or holidays lovely town very busy on the days we were there but a lovely experience. The house is beautiful and very comfortable with stunning views over the lake (great to sit out of a morning and evening and take in the views) the house was spotless with all you could need, lazy mornings and afternoons and evenings spent down at the small clean beach where the boys swam away no bother and at night we sat outside for tea and played board games and card games. The road up to the house is very tight with lots of twists and turns so be careful and mindful of other road users (mainly farmers with tractors). We met John out and about as we walked around the little roads as he looked after his sheep the boys had a great time asking him lots of questions he also had lots of historical information about the area! Both of them were really very accommodating and if you needed anything all you had to do was ring or text them. We really enjoyed our stay here, a great way to spent a week get to unwind away from busy life’s…I would recommend this type of holiday if you want to get away from everything and live in a bubble for a week its very peaceful and relaxing, its great!

The Carraigin Ban is a place in its own league - The best cottage we ever have spent nights on a holiday. On our arrival we were very well received in a personal manner by the hosts, John and Judy. And throughout our week long stay they cared for us in every manner. On our arrival Judy had baked irish soda bread for us, and we were give access to their lovely herbs and vegetable garden. Fresh harvest every day - what a gift. We were given good tips on what we could do and see in the surroundings. Always at hand, ready to cater for whatever we might need. You can't find better hosts for a cottage holiday, and we felt just as much as friends, as paying guests. The cottage is equiped with whatever you may need for a long stay. Wasing machine, dishwasher, a fully equiped kitchen - you name it, it's all there. The place is situated in a quiet and peaceful rural area with a nice wiew over the Lough Mask. In front of the cottage there is a barbecue area were meals can be enjoyed - if the weather permit (during our stay it was too cold) The pictures give a good impression, but in reality it's even more cosy. Make sure you check out the local shop, post office, and social meeting point, T.J O'Toole. I have been writing reviews for more than tens years on booking.com. This is the third time I wished I could have given more than 10 points.

Nicely renovated cottage, well presented and lovely and clean. Three good sized bedrooms, 2 double and 1 twin. Nice living room and kitchen. The host was easy to deal with and left some supplies for us on arrival which was much appreciated. Suited our needs as we wanted somewhere dog friendly.

Carraigin Ban is a sweet, spacious, comfortable house (that still manages to have the feel of a cosy cottage) that is perfectly situated for exploring so much of beautiful Mayo eg. Westport, Castlebar, Cong, Achill …… I could go on! We stayed a week & wish we had another week. Easily enough to explore with the perfect base. Judy & John were warm, welcoming & helpful. Undiscovered wonder and hidden gem. Excellent place for a quiet retreat, panoramic views and picturesque hikes in Mayo. Quoting from host's Tour Guide of Lough Mask: 'the sound of silence'. Very nice, clean and very well equipped cottage for self-cattering. Hosts were very helpful throughout our stay.
