Beautiful view and a lovely warm cottage named Buttercup . We slept like babies because its very quit and you could only hear the cows of the neighbours.Rachel and Rory are very kind and warm. There hospitality is more than we expected! They gave use very good tips where to eat or to visit. Our 10 years old son had also a great time. He could play football in the yard. The view from the bedrooms is spectaculair! So nice to wake up with that kind of view. Whitby is only half hour drive. In Lastingham is a great pub with very good food ( fresh prepared) . York is an hour drive ( we didn't had enough time sadly). hopefully we will be back in springtime!

Location was perfect to attend a funeral in a nearby church . Arriving to a lit Christmas tree and other Christmas touches, as well as a tray set and milk in the fridge was so welcoming. Everything was very clean and well thought out.

I am not a tv / internet person and wasnt here for that..so cant comment on those bits. Relaxing cottage , charming and quirky , real peace away from the world. as a self caterer it was well appointed kitchen. Bed comfy too. Local walks varied but beautiful

We had a wonderful stay at Lilac Cottage over the Easter weekend while attending a wedding at Danby Castle, the area is absolutely beautiful. Nessa was really accommodating to us and the welcome treats on arrival were a lovely touch. The cottage is very well equipped, a real home from home with a log burner for those chillier evenings. We were extra lucky to see newborn lambs which were in the field next to the cottage garden. Highly recommend!

Lovely Yorkshire stone cottage. Very well equipped. Comfortable bed and that second bathroom so useful. Plenty of hot water which isn’t always guaranteed at an older property! The property was decorated for Christmas and was lovely and warm when we arrived. What a cosy festive welcome! Very clean. Thoughtful welcome basket. Communication from owner excellent.

Super location, lovely old but well maintained property, great staff and cozy pub with comfy rooms and real fires in public spaces . Breakfast is very good. We were attending a wedding at Danby Castle, which is a good 25 minute walk in the beautiful countryside- very good choice to stay.

The cottage was very comfortable and clean. It had everything that we needed. It was really quiet in beautiful countryside. It was nice of owner leave us some welcoming cakes and biscuits from the local area. we liked them so much we had to find the shop in Whitby that sold them. The owner was very friendly and had good information about the area.
