The accommodation was very good and the attitude of the staff was very friendly. The food was very good with excellent choice at breakfast and evening meal. The special Boma Braai evening was very nice and the wildlife snake experience fascinating. The evening Bush Drive worked well and particularly appreciated the picnic before the return.

The Pilansberg is great for Fauna & Flora. We always have good animal & bird sightings.
The condition of many of the roads is appalling and not comfortable in a normal sedan vehicle.
The Camping facilities at Bakgatla are adequate with good shade but not much grass.
However, the Chalet we used was terrible. R10k for three nights - the Aircon didn't work at all(in 37deg heat),the Stove didn't work. The Tap on the sink was literally falling off.The Fridge wasn't very efficient.
No Shower and the bath was designed for a midget & it was dirty because the surface was badly stained.
One toilet for five people - not good enough for R3k a night.

The staff and service were amazing.
The staff and service were amazing. Always helpful and polite. The manager Karel was also very helpful and went out of his way to please us. He took us on some amazing game drives.
The hotel is old and tired and the rooms are dirty. The mats by the bed were filthy and torn as well as the mat in the bathroom which also needed a clean.
The food was very average and we were also served left overs on one of the days we were there. Unless there is an upgrade to the premises I cannot see us going back anytime soon

Once one we were in the sanctuary of the Black Rhino Lodge, all was fantastic. Getting there and back by road was unpleasant. The surrounding areas are poverty stricken and the roads in a poor state.
Unforunately, there is no longer an airport in the area.

Although the roads aren't in the best shape, it helps one to drive slowly, to enjoy the bush and all it has to offer. The "Friends of Pilansberg" try very hard to maintain the roads. The "Bush" takes care of the rest!!
The design, location and privacy of these villas is five star. With a heated pool on the most amazing patio overlooking the Pilansberg we were able to relax in complete privacy, even seeing a hippo in the small dam in front of the unit. We also loved that we could walk within the resort (something not really safe to do in other bush villas) and make use of the resorts lively amenities … the restaurant, tennis courts, gym, boma, game drives ect. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back.
The staff was largely superb, although not everyone speaks fluent English.
Breakfast is a high point: each day is different, and dietary restrictions are requested and followed (e.g. one can ask for no beef, no pork, etc.)
Some rooms are in separate apartments near the swimming pool.
Bathrooms are large w/ large showers.
Near Pilansberg Park and Sun City.
Extra secure entrance to room w/ locking gate as well as door.
Refrigerator and coffee materials in room. Air conditioning.
It lacked the polish I would expect for the price paid. On the day we arrived there was not enough food, the waiter service was poor. The rooms were large and the structure was spectacular but it looked empty due to the sparse furnishings. As a South African, this was not a cheap destination and I was hoping for more attention to detail from the staff and rooms. Reception staff were excellent and game drives were a great experience.
delicious food all day long. wonderful room, great view into the national park, very quiet, friendly and helpful stuff, amazing game drives (morning and afternoon), game driver had excellent knowledge about animals and pilansberg national park in general, outdoor shower- with a nature view, great room service, big mosquito net so we could let the balcony door open all night long and listen to the natures/animals sound
All meals were tasty and well presented. Obviously there is a good chef.
The standard rooms are very small. Apart for the huge bed, there is little space left. This is not the typical room size for a 5* hotel, which Shepherds Lodge pretends to be.
Apart from the 2 game drives per day, there is little to do in the hotel.
It was beautiful! Artistic luxury and tastefully furnished! the staff were friendly, kind and amazing. As a solo traveler, I never felt like I was alone! The Safari drives were amazing as well and I saw 3 out of the big 5! generally happy and I hope to visit again!
We did have some very good game viewings (but very busy in the the Pilansberg game park)
The room was fairly comfortable (we were in a junior suite) and they did at least make up the bunk bed for my 6 year old to sleep on as they dont supply extra beds.
Staff was outstanding. Even got lucky and had a private safari morning ride. Room was insane and luxurious! This place was epic. Here is a video. https://www.instagram.com/reel/CpBSuHko1jT/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
the hotel is really nice, right beside one of the gates to the park.
the staff was amazing, super friendly, helpful and kind.
the room was great.
everything ok. had a great time!
The hotel is amazing, the Crew is very gently and the position is a dream! I’ll come back soon! I’ll fly from Italy again just to be in this amazing place!
The facilities and location in Terms of Pilansberg were fantastic. The rooms are enormous, exceptionally well furnished and have unbelievable facilities.
