Sweeping along the coast against a mountain backdrop, San Diego has easy living down to a fine art. Its wonderful beaches and mild climate make it a favorite spring break destination, and with over 40 city breweries, there are plenty of ice cold beers to set the mood.
The city’s most recognizable landmark is the Hotel del Coronado, a wooden Victorian beach resort, now a National Historic Landmark. As original Spanish mission and first in California, it's has been relocated to the Mission Valley area, and Old Town San Diego still has many Colonial buildings and quirky shops. Also great for shopping are Horton Plaza and the boutiques in the beachfront neighborhoods.
The city’s most famous attraction is its zoo in Balboa Park, a few blocks from San Diego International Airport. One of the world’s largest zoos, it is well worth a visit, as is the fantastic SeaWorld, home to several killer whales. To see wildlife in its natural habitat head to La Jolla beach where harbor seals rest, or watch whales in season from Point Loma Lighthouse.
Just over the border from Mexico’s Tijuana, San Diego has a distinctly Latin American vibe and a variety of accommodations encompassing apartments, motels, B&Bs and hotels. See Booking.com for the best deals.
San Diego is fun for everyone.
We did the US Midway tour, US Marine Museum, Whale Watching and visited Downtown, Little Italy, Gaslamp district. Was fun, great places to eat at and enjoy the weather and coast. It is pricey, so if you're willing to take a hit to the wallet, it is an awesome place to be.

Due to our booked airbnb accommodation being disgusting we only got the one day there but we went to the USS Midway museum, this was fantastic and not to be missed, the Doubletree hotel was good all things right, only downside the resteraunt was extortionate prices and really spoiled the stay. Had to go out to eat but there was a small mall with nice shops and an assortment of eating choices about 5 minutes walk away, saved the day.

San Diego have really worked hard on making it a tourist-friendly city. Their tourist web site (SanDiego.org) has a lot of really good suggestions about what to do and see in the city and the surrounding area. We stayed in La Jolla which is a nice small town but has easy access via transit to the city. If you are in a car, there appears to be a lot of free parking for various attractions (e.g .Balboa Park, Old Town) and you can park for free in the Old Town and get to downtown San Diego in about 15 minutes using their excellent tram system. If you are driving, you can travel out to Coronado and enjoy the State Park there. Also worthwhile is a trip to the desert on Hwy 52.

Absolutely beautiful and fantastically fun area!
Absolutely beautiful and fantastically fun area! I would be happy alone, with family or a girlfriend. So much to do and such great atmosphere and food, weather etc. Only problem was FANTASTICALLY EXPENSIVE! Holy cow, bring a lot of cash. Absolutely everything cost a fortune, so we weren't able to stay as long as we wanted.

The downtown area near Seaport Village is fun to explore with good restaurants and other shops. If you stay at a hotel in the area, you can also visit the Gaslamp Quarter for tours and more great food. You can walk along the Embarcadero and visit the large peninsula park. Another thing to do is find a good concert at the Rady Shell at Jacobs Park. The Rady Shell is just a short walk, and it would be a nice evening.
It is close to SeaWorld and far enough away from downtown and hotel circle that you don't feel overwhelmed. There is a private beach that is a plus. It's nice and quiet, and if your room has a view of the public beach, you can watch the SeaWorld fireworks show at night. Each room has a patio type setup with two pool loungers on them that you can relax on and just take in some sun. Front desk staff are very friendly. Parking is really good. You can easily get a spot right in front of your room. I would definitely stay here again.
The location is excellent. It is close to major attractions like the San Diego Zoo, USS Midway Museum, downtown San Diego and the Gaslamp district and the San Diego Airport. Parking at the hotel was always available The breakfast was very good and the breakfast area was well-stocked and replenished in a timely manner. The staff managing the breakfast area was very cheerful and friendly and appeared to be genuinely happy to address patrons' needs effectively and efficiently. Overall, my wife and I liked the facility.
The room was spacious, airy, well appointed and very comfortable with a nice bathroom.
The staff were super friendly and helpful. A delightful small hotel with character in an excellent location in a quiet area with a view of the ocean from the balcony and just steps from the small beach and the La Jolla cove walk. Pelicans, sea lions and seals just minutes away made for a extremely enjoyable stay.
A great area with easy access to all the attractions that San Diego has to offer.
The hotel is ideally located 5 mins walk from the bus/tram station, 5 mins from the old town, 5 mins from very good restaurants.
The staff is smiling, welcoming and always attentive to our requests. Finally, the establishment is clean both in the common areas and in the rooms.
The breakfast by the pool is very nice.
But, for us, this hotel was a great discovery and contributed to our having a great stay in San Diego. We are going back without hesitation. THANK YOU !
It was close to the airport and convenient to downtown and transportation. The surrounding environment was clean and quiet, and I liked the spa and pool. The staff were all friendly, and accessibility and value for money were the best. The breakfast was especially good, and all the staff at the restaurant were friendly and tried to maintain cleanliness. If I come back to San Diego in the future, this is a hotel I want to come back
The hotel has everything you need, there is a market in the lobby with 24 hours service and they serve starbucks coffee. They have sandwiches and fruits so that was very convenient. The hotel is located by the sea so it's about 20 minutes walk to reach downtown san Diego where all the action is. The room was ok, nothing special about it, however, the view from the room was amazing.
Good hotel for a good price among the others in this zone, you can take the bus just in front of the hotel. There is a Mall (Mission Valley) 10 min away walking from Days inn
I really enjoyed my experience in this place, and in the maps it seems far away from San Diego downtown, but you can move by bus / trolley around San Diego, in 20 / 30 min. Pretty cool.
I had a great stay at Del Mar Beach Hotel. This was my first time staying here and it will be my new default stay in San Diego. The room was nice and clean and - most importantly - comfortable! I could stay in that bed all day. The location cannot be beat and the lounge on the water was really nice and useful. I look forward to my next stay!
Try room was a clean, well appointed room (small but with everything I needed). The location was excellent for South and North Park, for access to Balboa Park, and to downtown. There was free parking on the street, and it is a safe area to walk to nearby restaurants and shops. This is my new go-to hotel for trips to the San Diego area!
The inn is located in the hotel circle which makes it accessible to attractions in San Diego. We chose this facility specifically for the outdoor amenities. We brought food back and were able to eat at the tables near the pool. There are two restaurants on the property so it's very convenient. There is also a nearby liquor store.
Location, Location, Location . . . Across the street from The Coronado Hotel and Coronado Beach! Walking distance everywhere including 25 minute walk to the harbor side and Ferry's that run between downtown San Diego and the Island! Short 15 minute travel time to Horseback riding on the Beach and Mountains! . . . Bilger
I was very pleasantly surprised when I checked into the Old Town Inn!
It was clean, close to all the places I wanted to visit, and very affordable!
I've stayed at another big named corporate hotel in the Hotel Circle of San Diego and it was an absolute pit compared this hotel. Kudos to the owners and staff here!!!
One of the best staff in San Diego. Very helpful and provide great details. Very warm and nice people. The first impression of any hotel is their front office staff and I would give them a 5 star for the front office and also the house keeping service
Great location to be able to dip into busy downtown San Diego but then come back and relax away from the noise. Kids loved the pools and beach just outside the room. The food at the hotel eateries was very good as well. Overall great for families.
The position in San Diego and the large bathroom, bigger than the bedroom. The possibility of free parking was one of the reason why we choose the hotel. The complimentary breakfast is a plus although I have eaten only bread and coffe.
The location of hotel is perfect. Easy and fast check in. The staff was great. Very nice and friendly. Enjoyed our stay. Will return to hotel when we come back to San Diego. Worth the money spent. Great rate. Not expensive at all.
Perfect hotel a couple of steps away from the beach. The beds and towels always smell clean. The toiletts and the kitchen are being cleaned several times a day. Overall it is the coolest hostel in San Diego.
