Hawaiian Sanctuary Eco Retreat Center, hotel in Pahoa

Featuring a large fitness centre and a spa with a hot tub, Sanctuary Retreat Center provides accommodation with free WiFi.

The room was open with louvered windows, letting in the natural breezes. We each had our own bed to sleep in. The outdoor shower was very refreshing, which we enjoyed very much. The bathrooms were kept clean. Receiving a complementary coffee was nice. We appreciated getting to know some of the residents.

Every corner of the property seemed to have been designed with utmost care and attention to detail, creating a serene and harmonious atmosphere that instantly put us at ease. One of the highlights of our stay was the outdoor bathtub, which proved to be a haven of relaxation and romance. Eliot, the host, made sure our stay was exceptional. His warm hospitality was evident from the moment we arrived. He showed us the site of the 2018 eruption just blocks away. It was moving and informative to hear about the impact of it in the lives of the people living there. He kindly shared some avocados from his own tree, which we enjoyed as a delicious treat during our stay. It's the little touches like these that made our experience all the more special. Overall, we had an great and relaxing time in this Hawaiian oasis. The combination of the tranquil surroundings, the inspiring Balinese style, and the thoughtful amenities provided a rest from the all the exploration and activities in Hawaii. We wholeheartedly recommend this house to anyone seeking a rejuvenating retreat in Hilo.

I don't know where to start... the house in the middle of the jungle... the shower/hottube in the middle of the jungle... the open-minded people (incl. the area arround)... the possibility to feel free and nude where-/whenever you want... i think there's a maximum of 10 guests if it's fully booked, so you can get in touch with everybody if you like.... check-in was super easy and uncomplicated... Ashton and his partner are super nice hosts and care a lot that you feel comfortable, there are really great.... the wifi was top, it was very clean at all and the kitchen is well equiped... i'll definitly come back... highly recommended for mind-opend (naturalist) people...

Pahoa is smaller than Hilo but feels more authentically Hawaiian. Having said that, there is access to restaurants, a grocery store, gift shops etc. It was a good starting point for trips to a black sand beach, the volcano, the botanical gardens (a must see!), and other sites.

PAHOA is a very Large district many individual suburbs, Kalapana, Kalapana Estate Pahoa, Hawaiian Gardens, Paradise, Orchidland. Ainaloa, Leilani Estate and so forth I believe it's all part of PUNA. So it's huge... Over all I really enjoy Pahoa cause I have my best friend who lives and work in the heart of Pahoa she's is such a blessing. So Yes I Love It There. Lots of delicious places to eat at even from the side of the road, Certain days you can buy Fresh Tuna and other fish right from the Ahi Man!!! Amazing 😍

Pahoa is off of the beaten path.

Pahoa is off of the beaten path. I have come to Pahoa only to visit my family members who have lived on the island for over 10 years. The town Pahoa has added a good shopping center with Malama grocery. And Pahoa is close to the volcano and the beautiful coast. Wouldn't recommend Pahoa as a tourist destination. But if you're not the touristy type, this is the place for you.

Close to the most recent lava flows, Lava Tree State Monument, Star of the Sea Painted Church and scenic coastal drives. Nice small town with several places to eat. We particularly liked Pho 19 and the Smoothie Shack. Olympic size public pool. Lap swimming is free!

Try to go to Uncle Roberts place at the end of the road on Wednesday nights. Quite the experience. Other things around the area offer lots of lava and the state and national parks (especially the ones on the water) are amazing. Great remote place like no other.

Location outside Pahoa was beautiful and calm; distinct from Hilo. There was easy access to downtown Pahoa and it was an easy drive to Hilo. The grounds were lovely and the interior unique. The kitchen facilities were as expected. There was an excellent guide book that we found very useful in guiding our travels. As I started doing pottery in retirement, I appreciated that the owner, a potter, showed me his kiln and lovely pots. One of them came home with me.

Eliot's vacation home is vibrant and spacious and is nestled amongst lush fauna and flora of Pāhoa. Eliot went above and beyond and embodies the spirit of generosity. We are so thankful for his insights into local eats, attractions and the beautiful home he provided. I hope to return someday.

Great bungalow, amazing atmosphere, perfect location for Pahoa and very cozy for someone alone or a couple. The outside of the room is very nice for breakfast or for meditating. The kitchen has everything. There were some fruits on my arrival. The bathroom was very clean and well equipped.

This place gave us a feeling of being a guest at a dear old friends home more so than at a bed and breakfast. We were given the warmest possible welcome and were almost sad to have to check out again and hit the road. Thank you so much for your hospitality. Ciao from Yin and Jan.

The location of this property is good. The setting is beautiful - it is essentially in the jungle and close to Pahoa town. The location is good for getting to Volcano National Park.
