FAQs about hotels in Los Angeles

City of Dreams

Exploring Los Angeles, the place where many movies are made, you feel like you’re in a dream. Santa Monica Pier is the ending point of fabled Route 66, while just south is bohemian Venice Beach, lined by tall, swaying palms. Go slightly inland from the boardwalk to glimpse the canals that earned the area its name.

Head north to the golden beach and stunning scenery of Malibu and see why movie stars over the decades have settled here. Also popular with the rich and famous are Bel Air and Beverly Hills, home to exclusive Rodeo Drive.

And the reason for all this glitz and glamour? Hollywood, of course! Sitting high on a hill, the iconic sign is visible for miles around, while below the gold stars on Hollywood Boulevard immortalise celebrities of past and present.  Be there on premiere night to see them grace the red carpet of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre.

Over the hill is Universal Studios, offering behind-the-scenes tours as well as rides. Next door are the Warner Brothers Studios, and Paramount Studios are closer to Downtown LA.

Whether you decide to live like a star in a luxury LA hotel or choose a cheap motel through Booking.com, it’s worth renting a car to get around this sprawling city and out to Los Angeles Airport (LAX).

Loved attending UCLA especially staying on campus, learning more about medical care for seniors. Swimming in the pool, walking the campus and remembering what an amazing experience I enjoyed at UCLA. Such an exceptional world class institution. But I still feel like it was the best education on Earth. So lucky!

Be prepared to see homelessness. And trash.

Be prepared to see homelessness. And trash. Also be prepared to see stunning sights and experience unique people. Plan your outings. Plan your trips. Experience Mexican street food. Go to Pinks Hotdogs. Do research of your intended places to visit to ensure they are open. Don't open your wallet in front of beggers. Buy yourself a metro travel card, super handy to help move you around.

Los Angeles is a beautiful place to stay. If you don’t book through booking.com that steal your money will not move your reservation and then block you and never answer your emails because they’re in the Netherlands.

I really liked my time in LA.

I really liked my time in LA. I had a rental car with my brother and it was really helpful. Even though people say parking in LA is difficult, my brother and I were always able to find free parking nearby where we wanted to explore, you just have to be willing to walk 5-15 min sometimes. I recommend looking at residential streets in the areas you want to be in. But always make sure you read parking signs and follow any rules. We would sometimes scout out streets on Maps street view and look for parking signs. This is definitely a recommendation for people willing to walk.

Title: Total Scam – Avoid This Listing at All Costs!

Title: Total Scam – Avoid This Listing at All Costs! I had a horrible experience with this property and want to warn others before they go through the same. The listing looked great online, so I booked it in advance via Booking.com. However, when we arrived for check-in, the hosts were completely unresponsive. Repeated calls and messages went unanswered, leaving us stranded without any access to the property. Later, we discovered that the same house was listed on Airbnb under a different name. It turns out that this is part of a scam that some LA hosts are running – they list the same property across multiple platforms, take the bookings and the money, and then ghost guests at check-in. If they do respond (which they didn’t in our case), they usually claim there’s a “last-minute issue” and try to move you to a different property that’s nowhere near the quality of the one you originally booked. The “alternative” accommodations are often in bad locations or in poor condition – completely unacceptable. This was a frustrating, stressful, and expensive situation, and we ended up scrambling last-minute to find a new place to stay. Booking.com really needs to vet their listings more thoroughly and crack down on these bad actors. I wouldn’t wish this experience on anyone – stay far away from this listing and do your research before booking in LA.

LA is great, but it has a vast array of options.

LA is great, but it has a vast array of options. This hotel is super close to The Grove and Farmer's Market. You can spend all day there. A quick Uber and you can hit the Sunset Strip. Got a long weekend? Stay centrally located, like at this place.
