If you want a vintage experience, this is the perfect place, everything in the hotel is very old but at the same time very well cared for, and for us, being young, it was a surprising and pleasant experience.

If you like nature, then the location is great, far away from any towns. The owner was extremely friendly and helpful. He came out at 9pm to fix the heating which did not work, so we could at least sleep warm.

The hotel is beautiful and blends well with the lovely mountain setting. The room was roomy and comfortable. The beds are comfortable. There is a little market where you can get snacks and drinks and OTC meds.

I was happy to find a place that I could have my dog with me! It was very clean! Easy to access from the highway. Also, a little road noise because it was so close. Bring your own sheets. This unit was very clean, but the sheets were rough and the mattress was thin. Stocked well with bright white towels and plenty of paper goods. It is priced right and I was so happy to have my dog with me! She loved it! I didn't light the fireplace, but if I was there earlier each evening, I would have liked to. I was staying for work! NO noise from other people or dogs...just the road noise early each morning. NO pet odors, though I did have to make sure I offered to take her out. She smelled. But again....pet lovers...it is VERY HARD to find any place within 30 minutes of Blowing Rock you can have your pet with you.

I loved the scenic views around the property.
I loved the scenic views around the property. I booked it specifically for the changing foliage plus hiking the local trails. Other than being accustomed to the winding mountain roads, I highly recommend The Highlands!

Banner Elk is a beautiful area and very close to Grandfather Mountain. It had adequate shopping and restaurants. It took some time to travel from place to place because of traffic, but it was otherwise very pleasant to visit.

This is the second year we stay in Banner Elk.
This is the second year we stay in Banner Elk. We love the area. There are a lot of great restaurants, lots to see and the weather is beautiful. The town is a very cute place to walk around. It is a short drive to other places such as Blowing Rock (more great restaurants and shopping on a very cute main street), Grandfather Mountain (mile-high bridge, zoo, gift shop and fantastic views, and the Blue Ridge Parkway (amazing views.)
The room is big, bigger than your typical hotel room. Bedroom is large, Bathroom is large with a tub that could hold 4 people standing up. It does have a high step over, if you have mobility issues in your legs it may be an issue. There is a full size kitchen that has a refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, dishwasher, not those tiny fridges with a small microwave. The kitchen is large so preparing meals is easy, difficult when the kitchen is small.
It was such a cute and comfy condo with a great view of Sugar Mountain. The owner had several games and tvs throughout the condo. It was very clean and neat. Its location was so convenient to everything around Sugar Mountain, and grocery store too. A few minute drive into Banner Elk and not a bad drive into Boon. We loved our stay and highly recommend it.
The room was nice and comfortable. The kitchenette was an excellent touch when you don't feel like going out to eat. The pool and jacuzzi were great for unwinding after a long day. Overall, it's a really nice place that won't break the bank. It's not 5 star fancy, but doesn't pretend to be. It's charming and rustic, and a great place to relax and unwind.
Staff was excellent - it is so nice to have friendly people who remember you. The breakfast - while just grab and go - was much better than other hotels with an included breakfast (esp. the sausage biscuits). The location cannot be beat.
The house is on top of the mountain and you truly feel that you are a world away. The house is perfectly situated near Boone, Blowing Rock and Benner Elk, making access to all very easy. The house has such lovely details.
