This is an excellent little boutique hotell with a nice position in the end at Matemwe beach. It has a good size pool close to the beach. A neat restaurant and a cozy lounge section.
The hotell is the perfect size, not to big nor to small. The rooms are very big and tidy and the overall atmosphere is fantastic. But what really stands out is the management and staff. Super friendly and helpful in a most genuine way.

We stayed in this hotel for 6 nights. We absolutely loved every part of our stay. We had the feeling that all employees are happy and satisfied, which made our stay especially enjoyable. The location was great and we loved our morning and evening walks on the beach. The food was the best we had during our entire Tanzania trip. Huge compliment to the chef, he's really talented. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Loved the little book corner with the games and the afternoon cake and coffee! The owners are very friendly and welcoming and often came by for a chat. Thank you for this beautiful memory!

It’s very quiet, very few non hotel restaurants, overpriced food everywhere, can’t swim in the sea unless you don’t mind knee deep water. There’s no town, or town centre outside the beach hotels, so a long stay would be challenging if you want more than just lounging by the hotel pool.

Matemwe and its area is a quiet place where you can relax and enjoy the beach, the activities (snorkeling, swimming with dolphins) especially if you are a couple, because the village is not very full of enterteinments or night parties.

Crystal clear water - despite there being sea urchins - if you have rock/ aqua shoes - you can still swim and explore the waters and reefs.
The beaches are a lot quieter and peaceful than the busier beaches up north.
The tides are also fascinating to watch- you can walk out to the reefs and cycle along the beaches when they go out!

Marafiki gets a 10/10 from us on all fronts - breakfast, lunch, dinner, pool, cleanliness, hospitality, music, sustainability, beach, communication.
My husband and I stayed 4 nights at Marafiki after our Safari and had the most fabulous time. The rooms were very clean and quiet, and beautifully set up.
The food is exceptional - please try the tuna tartar and all the specials!
We had a relaxing time at the spa - you must try the full body scrub and massages.
We used the free kayaks during sunset and enjoyed the stunning view from the water. The water is shallow so even if you go far, you can get off the kayak and swim.
Since the hotel is east facing - sunrise is exceptionally beautiful. The water is still and shallow, and you can see all the fisherman walk up to the reef to catch the fish.
The hotel also arranged a cooking lesson in Matamwe village for us - we learned how to cook ‘muchuzi’ from scratch which was a very meaningful experience.
Overall- no negatives. We had the best time and will be back!

The beach is beautiful, but it's not really a beach you can swim on - there's a big tidal range - when it comes in it's quite choppy with lots of seaweed, and when it's out its corally with lots of urchins. But it's interesting to watch the local people looking for octopus and shellfish every day.
It's quite a quiet area - all the bars are part of hotels. A few nice local restaurants around. Quite a lot of beach touts, which we found off putting. Not loads of activities to do in the area - 1/2 day snorkelling/dolphin watching trips at Mnemba Island basically.
Everything!!!!
The best service ever! The best hotel in zanzibar!
The hotel is next to the beach. The beach is less for swimming because of many seaweed.
The hotel is beautiful, new, clean, modern, and there is also a spa.
They sang to us happy anniversary and surprised with chocolate cake.
Also the bed was well organized and in the room we found sparkling wine!
The view from the room is outstading, especially during sunrise.
The area is not crowded as other part of Zanzibar and for us it was perfect!
The food was very good!
It was a fantastic experience. My personal favourite part was the food, it was terrific. The service was on point, the owners were very generous, genuine, attentive and authentic. We went for a couples' weekend and it was perfect, very calm and relaxing. It is a hotel but we feel at home. The rooms are also very spacious and clean. It is a very calm area so it can play in the hotels' favour or against, depending on what vibes you are looking for. Brand new hotel, the pictures do not lie!
Me and my wife had an amazing stay and we enjoyed every single day from our holiday.
The hotel has a very positive vibe and everyone is there to make sure your are having a wonderful stay.
The food it was on our taste and we never felt that we are missing something. And the most important is the staff, they will always serve you with smile and they really mean it not just to do their job!
We will recommend this place to our friends who will wish to visit Zanzibar!
We stayed at Zanzibar House for 4 nights during our vacation in Zanzibar. The intimate 7 bedroom hotel has a beautiful location and the beach is private and secluded. The rooms are very comfortable, well-appointed, and have gorgeous views of the sea from large, wooden balconies. The local staff are friendly, hospitable, and go out of their way to meet your every need if they are able to. The in-house massage therapist is incredible and the pool was lovely.
Hebe Bungalows Lodge is a unique lodging on the northeast shore of Zanzibar. The lodge is enclosed within a high wall and security gate. The road to the lodge is unpaved and rough. It winds through the local village where poverty is evident. The location was good for my snorkeling tour near Mnemba Island. I liked my room (#7) and the view. The staff were professional and friendly. The restaurant was enjoyable and the food was good.
Matemwe is very quiet in a natural surroundings. The food was very very good in the restaurant with a beautiful view in front of the beach. In the morning during low tide it's worth it to take some shoes and walk with local people in the sea to see some starfishes (do not touch them or take them outside the water, it can kill them). The staff in the hotel and restaurant was kind, smiling and very helpful. We had a wonderful time.
Super friendly staff - always a smile on their face and working as a team; relaxed atmosphere; free drinking water; all-day breakfast; best food in a hotel restaurant ever; reef-walk with the highly knowledgeable deaf gardener; stunning first-row view of the sunrise and many many more things. If we visit Zanzibar again this hotel will definitely be on our route
This was our first family trip to Zanzibar, & after lot of research we booked the beach facing independent villa at Marafiki Beach Resort Hotel & Spa..... We were really delighted to experience a wonderful stay there... all in our privacy & comfort. Having an own swimming pool & direct access to white sand beaches were features which made it more exclusive.
one of the most amazing vacations we’ve ever had, the location and the rooms are just perfect for a summer retreat, the reception (specifically Sabina) was so welcoming and helped us alot during our stay and made is so comfortable for us, the food is extremely delicious as well! I highly recommend Zanziblue for your stay in Zanzibar
The hotel is comfortable and aesthetic, and it's in a absolutely beautiful location. I really enjoyed the breakfasts, and the dinners were tasty too, big portions! But the thing that made it all beyond wonderful is the staff. They are attentive and kind, and they really made us feel at home. I would definitely reconsider it.
Incredibly clean and was located next door to several delicious local restaurants (to explore local culture) - we didn't eat dinner at the property as we enjoyed our meals elsewhere. However, breakfast was exceptional at the hotel. The massage services were excellent. Beautiful views.
Perfect vacation. Location was good, food was very exquisite. Swiming with dolphins was in front of the hotel. Turtles zoo was only 30 minutes away. And the most warm welcome ever experienced from Leigh. She was very helpful in every our request and made our vacation delightful.
We spent 4 great days in Zanzibar Retreat Hotel. The whole hotel is very well kept, the management is really kind and welcoming. They provide a cosy , safe and relaxed atmosphere. Rooms are clean, just as the pool. We can recommend their restaurant, foods were always great.
Georgia were the best host, we learn so much about the soul and mentality of zanzibar, priceless. Clean, well kept rooms surounded the oasis of the place. A few steps from the long stretch beach o matemwe. Zanziblue with 5star food a stonethrow away.
The hotel is really beautiful and very clean. The staff were extremely friendly and tried everything to make our stay comfortable. The food at restaurant was really tasty and high quality. The beachside area is really scenic.
Let’s say that the Hotel is extremely well managed and organized with wonderful Tanzanian people working there, on the best Zanzibar beach - Food Excellent - Nice Setting - Really the Best in Zanzibar specially with Kids
Perfect property, quiet and away from the noise.villa was beautiful and worth every cent.staff was super friendly esp Arusha/Aisha at the reception and the manager. Just book, best of all the hotels we booked in zanzibar
Lot of amenities are free of charge - bikes, badminton, yoga, village tour… also it feels pretty private on the beach comparing to other (5star) hotel we stayed in while in Zanzibar. Great value for money.
