The location is walking distance to several restaurants selling a mix of Asian and Western type foods. The bus station is also walking distance if it isn't a hot day! The rooms were fresh feeling, a good size and included a fridge and kettle. At reception they sell a few essentials including clothes washing powder for the nearby washing machines. The balcony had a small line to hang the wet clothes.

Elephant Festival arrive day before to see elephant parade and them having breakfast.
If elephants were your main reason then see the daytime show in the stadium as evening show was mostly thai folk dancing with a few token elephants

this hotel is like a grand old lady..a bit dated but trying to look beautiful in her old age. Nevertheless the room were extremely comfortable spacious and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was ok and what you would expect from a hotel of this age.Downside was the staff on reception. They were miserable and unwelcoming.

Beautiful town, remote and non touristy.
Beautiful town, remote and non touristy. Countryside views and gives you a taste of real authentic Thailand. I would definitely come back and recommend it to people. It's a place where you can do nothing and enjoy the peace and quiet and relax but also a place where you can explore if you wanted to. There aren't loads of things to do, but it's just so lovely that even driving around looking at the sights and small villages is nice. If you like action packed then it's not the place but if you like quiet local countryside with more of a relaxed vibe then it's a wonderful place to come. As it isn't touristy place speaking English and no Thai is certainly a barrier. I travelled here with a local so got around fine but I think it would have been a struggle if I didn't because not many people speak English. Driving is very easy as the roads are extremely quiet.

We were there for the elephant show, which was excellent.
We were there for the elephant show, which was excellent. The show is held on Saturday-Sunday; Sunday is a duplicate of Saturday; no need to come Saturday and Sunday (except if you are an elephant addicted...). You need to be there on Thursday evening to attend the elephant breakfast and the parade held on Friday. This is not advertised, and everything is in the Thai language; this is mostly a Thai event.

We stayed in Surin for the MotoGP in Buriram as it was the closest accommodation we could get to the track. I am not sure what you can do there, but we did go into the town and see the craziness of it all and buy a few things.
