It is loud. The room does little to drown out outside noise. You can hear everything from other guests and young children to the many neighborhood roosters that start crowing at 0130. There might as well not even be a wall between rooms. Wifi was spotty and I could only access it on the balcony reliably. This is probably better for a family, not for when work needs to get done, although it depends heavily on who your neighbors are.

Our family was a little worried about this stop while hiking the GR-R2, due to some mediocre reviews, but our concerns were unfounded. The Hotel L'Ecrin has comfortable and clean rooms, a small bar, nice grounds with various activities, helpful staff, a very good breakfast buffet, and an excellent restaurant next door for dinner. We would definitely stay again.
