Matu and family are incredibly generous hosts! I was there to do research in Nuku Hiva, and Matu went to incredible lengths to connect me with community members. They are all genuinely nice people at the pension, and we also enjoyed the other guests. Facilities were spotless. Breakfasts were outstanding! Matu is also a great excursion leader.

Location was ok, a 10 minute walk to the waterfront but there were barking dogs and loud neighbors

Temeva Lodge was the most excellent place we stayed in Nuka Hiva. We loved the minimalist prefab home set up with modern amenities. Temeva was one of our favorite people we met during our stay and was incredibly helpful with anything we needed. The bedroom has a new boxspring queen matters, and the living room has two incredibly comfortable memory foam twin couches/beds. Located on the main road to the village and up the mountain it is easy walking or biking distance to the store, town, and a few shops.

The ride from the airport is a great introduction to the many natural wonders of Nuku Hiva. Stay long enough to visit the historic sites all over Nuku Hiva. I learned a lot about the history of the Marquesans. The best insight was from Ana and Tangy at Cannibal Art. Touring sites on my own was good....but you really need a guide to get the most out of your visit.

I spent a week in Nuku Hiva and the highlight of my trip was Ana and Tanguy’s hike to the waterfall, in the breathtakingly beautiful bay and forest of Hakaui (check their site, Cannibal Art, Ana and Tanguy). I also took a day tour with a superb local guide. I do not recal his name but ask Colette at the information centre and ask who Lise did her day with in October and she will know! Colette is very friendly and helpful in all respects. The rehearsals for the December festival was the cherry on the cake.

Location and accommodation excellent.
Location and accommodation excellent. Family owners excellent also.
I was there to see the endemic birds and all were found on a walk around the town, and Upe on the drive from the airport. No need for a car.
Ordering food was a bit hard because I don't speak French very well.
It is important to not have high expectations of a luxury stay. The facilities are completely adequate but not luxurious.
