The hosts went above and beyond to make sure our stay was excellent. They were so friendly and helpful, including walking us to the bus stop and making sure we caught the right bus. They helped watch our young children while we were eating, and chatted with us like old friends. The food was great, they supplied us with coca and muna tea to help with acclimatisation to the altitude, and my kids loved the open yard space to play in.

I really enjoyed my stay in this accommodation in Jauja. The room and bathroom were spacious and clean. The shower had good, hot running water with good water pressure, which is not a given in all hotels in this area. But the greatest asset of Hotel Virrey is the family running it. These people are super friendly and accommodating. When we asked how to get to the city center from the hotel (which is a 10 min. walk), the owner offered to take us there by car and showed us the sights. When we needed a taxi to take us to Jauja airport next morning at 4.45 AM (!), the owner insisted that he take us there himself. So if you are looking for a nice, family-run place to stay in Jauja, I can really recommend this hotel

Great spot in the country, away from the noise and horns of the city. Not a lot of food close so prepare or plan to drive a bit. Quiet, great views, very comfortable rooms. Highly recommend staying for a great get away. Breakfast was a great bonus, fresh juice and eggs from the chickens right on the property. A small electric heater takes the chill off on the chilly nights and the shared outdoor kitchen is great to prepare your own meals.

The town is full of history and the places to visit (lakes, ruins, city center) are so peaceful and beautiful. You can find different types of Peruvian dishes all over town. I had breakfast in the town’s market and it was very affordable and delicious. Lastly, the people of Jauja will welcome you with open arms. One thing to take into account is that Jauja is located at 11089 ft. above sea level so take it easy when walking, running, etc. (altitude sickness may happen if not careful).
