Really clean facilities. Being right on the beach was a bonus. Because of the time of year it almost felt like we had the place to ourselves. It was a little bit off the beaten track but that made it all the more attractive. Only 10 to 15 minutes to Opotiki so easy access to shops etc. I only wish we had more time there to explore the regional park which was on the back doorstep.
Offering a garden, Kukumoa Cabin provides accommodations in Opotiki. Featuring complimentary private parking, the guest house is a 17-minute walk from Waiotahe Beach.

The accommodation was adequate if on the minimum level. Could do with more blankets and hot water bottle or electric blanket in the coldest week of the year. A reading lamp would also help.
Located in the center of Whakatane CBD, directly across the road from the intercity bus stop, I-Site, White Island Tour Boats and fishing charters, Whakatane Hotel offers a range of accommodations...

Old school hotel in the middle of town. Very friendly staff. Not flash, but a good night's sleep in a good bed.
Awa Motel is a 10-minute drive from Ohope Beach, the Otarawairere Bay and Kapu Te Rangi Historic Reserve. It offers a cafe and free on-site parking. Guests have access to free unlimited WiFi.
It was everything we expected it to be. Prior to going there, we read about the area, as our host sent us a very informative booklet. It explained everything from nearby restaurants , shops and walk ways. Waiotahi has a long stretch of beach so walks on the beach are definitely recommended. Sunset views at Waiotahi from the beach are breathtaking!! Shops are 15 mins away, so its best to take your essentials. We loved the town area of Opotiki and The Hot Bread Cafe has great food and coffee. The Ohiwa Oyster farm has amazing burgers and fish and chips.

Friendly hosts; clean and spacious room; good shared facilities; adorable pets: cats, puppy, sheep, deer, horse and donkeys; and the off-the-beaten-track location ideal for those who want to get away from the city even for a night.

Lovely quiet setting out in the country and easy to find.
Lovely quiet setting out in the country and easy to find. Everything was as described but even better. Caroline was friendly, accommodating and available but also let us have space. Feels very relaxed, welcoming and like home.

It would have been lovely to have had more time to explore the birdlife & conservation area. Also to swim in the ocean, but we went in late Spring so not very busy, which is what we prefer. It is a delightfully peaceful place and you could also walk out on the flats at low tide , which we also didn't have time to do. We would certainly like to return to see more of the area as never been there before.
