Waihi Gold Alpacas 1 or 2 people, hotel in Waikino

Featuring barbecue facilities, Waihi Gold Alpacas 1 or 2 people offers accommodations in Waihi. Guests staying at this farm stay have access to a balcony.

The views on this alpaca farm are magnificent. Joanne and Neil are an absolutely wonderful couple who have created a very comfy and private space from which to enjoy the scenery. The accomodations are modern modular units that were spotlessly clean. If this were a fancy resort, I'd give it a 10, but pay far more. It was perfect for anyone who appreciates outdoor beauty, animals, great comfort and outstanding value. Joanne and Neil were very giving of their time as we asked a lot of questions about their alpacas, goats, and off-grid living. Fantastic!

Favourite place to eat was the Talisman Cafe which is open to all, the gardens are so beautiful. The Waikino Pub has great beers and food suitable for vegetarians and they have takeout too. The Victoria Battery Tramway & Museum is a must if you are into the history of the place, again open to all. At the moment if you are using the Rail Trail, the path between the George swing bridge and the Railway Tunnel bridge is not open to cyclists, so you have to use the tunnel

We enjoyed exploring the natural waterfalls and travelling along the Karangahake Gorge seeing a bit of our local history from mining tunnels to the remains of iron ore factories. Some waterfalls are on your doorstep others require a bit bit of a hike but well worth the effort

    Owharoa Falls - swim here!

Owharoa Falls - swim here! Waikino Station Cafe - nice bacon and egg flan - yum. Came back for another the next day! Lots on offer here t eat and drink - worth a look, even if you don't take the train - you can snack while at a table on the platform! They said they hire bikes out - but we didn't get the chance - it would be something I would like to do. Karanghake Gorge - very worth the longer walk. Do it if you can.
