Beautiful apartment with a gorgeous sea view! It was nicely furnished and had its own private carpark lot. We asked for a mini heater in the room as the air conditioning/heater unit was in the living room and we were afraid of the cold. Laura responded promptly and sent someone to deliver it to us that afternoon. She also promptly informed us when the room was ready and updated us about how the restaurant nearby was closed so we could make alternative meal plans. The husband loved this accommodation so much that he wants it for his retirement home!
Offering luxury, self-contained accommodations in the small sea-side town of Kaka Point, this property is surrounded by an abundance of wildlife, living in their natural habitat, including Fur Seals,...

Lovely little town!
Lovely little town! Well worth spending a day or two to check out all the natural attractions. The beaches in particular were rugged and secluded but relatively accessible. Would love to see it in the summer time!!

Balclutha is hardly a much sought destination but it is in a prime location to base yourself as you visit the Catlins and the ample attractions on its door step. The river in particular is underrated and provides great fishing and kayaking. The town itself sports most of the shops you expect as well as a supermarket and some great eateries. The hi-light of my trip was definitely staying at the historic Fern & Thistle which is just out of town and is definitely the hidden gem of Clutha.

Gorgeous vistas in the rural area, reminiscent of Lord of the Rings scenes. The locals are friendly and this is a nice place to stop when travelling. Highlights are the Bridge, walks along the Clutha River, and the rural views. The Raj Indian restaurant was really delicious, and the best coffee and cheese rolls are at Rosebank Cafe, south end of town.
The Fern and Thistle is located on a lovely quiet road a couple minutes drive outside of Balclutha. It was the perfect location for us to explore the area and to visit Dunedin (approx 1 hr drive) on a rainy day. The garden and house are large and beautiful, the house itself, the room and bathroom are in sync with the character of the house. Bed was super comfortable and breakfast had enough choices to get us going in the morning.
Clean and comfortable at a reasonable price. Not a tourist destination as such. Got a free shuttle bus to a local hotel / restaurant for food. The driver was confused / amused / surprised that tourists would stay in Balclutha … but it was perfect for our schedule and route.
This is a beautiful old manor house out of Balclutha. The backstory of the McSkimmings is very interesting. The furnishings are top drawer and the bed very comfortable. Bathrobes provided and there is an outdoor spa pool. We got a very good deal on our room too.
Found this jewel at the last minute as we were driving into Balclutha. Separate rental on private property, very clean, comfortable and modern. The owner was lovely and accommodating. Highly recommend as an overnighter or for a couple of days.
The hotel is old, but I felt we got good value for what we paid. The bed was comfortable, the shower was hot, the meal in their restaurant was very good. The kitchen facility and lounge were useful and readily available.
Brand new, super clean, fabulous breakfast provided, loved the quality linen and towels.
Best place to stay in Balclutha. Joss was amazing with welcome text and fresh towels each day👍🌸
Such a cool place. As a rep im in a lot of motels/hotels. Very cool change. Awesome host, comfortable bed, big TV, huge room , free choclates on arrival and 2 dogs to play with.
The motel was easy to find and the staff were most helpful providing a map of the area and advising of places to eat in Balclutha. The room was comfortable and very clean.
