Unique, arty, traditional and lively pretty much sums up the great mix that the island of Tromsø has to offer. The city is home to the unique Arctic Cathedral, an array of pubs, cafés and an energetic street culture.
If you’re planning a day of sightseeing be sure to visit Tromsø Museum, Polar Museum, the University Museum of Tromsø, Mack Brewery, and the Arctic Alpine Botanic Garden.
The city’s main square often holds a variety of markets and its streets are lined with colourful and old-style buildings and houses. Tromsø is one of the best places to view the amazing colours of the Northern Lights.
Nicknamed the ‘Gateway to the Arctic’ due to being a launching point for polar expeditions, Tromsø provides numerous activities such as hiking and kayaking during summer, and skiing and dog-sledding in winter, all in a backdrop of eye-catching scenery.
Tromsø is easily accessible from major cities such as Tallinn, Oslo and Helsinki and Tromsø Airport has direct flights to various European destinations. Check-out Booking.com for a selection apartments and hotels in Tromsø and throughout Norway.
I was there working an internship for two weeks. Really enjoyed a fjord boat trip and fjellheisen cable car. A beautiful town with beautiful surrounding countryside.
Bus travel was easy and it’s very walkable

Tromso is gateway to Lofoten Islands.
Tromso is gateway to Lofoten Islands. You can either stay while starting the trip or at the end before you catch your flight.
I think 1/2 day is good to explore Tromso town. Very few vegan options in Tromso city.

Tromso is a great place to visit all year around, summer fo4 the midnight sun and winter for the Northern Lights.
The town is great and easy to walk around - lots to see and do.
The old cathedral in the centre of the town is made of wood and is beautiful. I purchased a bus ticket on the Svipper app to get around for the week - the buses are many and regular - also there are apps to order taxis - quick and easy.
I didn’t take any Norwegian Kroner as most things, including the buses and taxis take cards.

It's a very beautiful place.
It's a very beautiful place. I was lucky with the weather too - it was warm and sunny most of the time.
The central parts can be seen in an hour or two, there are several museums worth visiting - the University Museum being the best in my opinion. The Telegrafbukta is called a beach but it is a bit of an overstatement, though the walk to it is nice and the area is beautiful.
The views from the mountain accross - the Fjellheisen, are stunning and I recommend climbing the sherpatrappa as a good challenge. You can also take the funicular of course.
There are nice boat trips to chose from as well.
The locals are, of course, super cool.
It is challenging to find good vegan food - very few restaurants offer vegan options and they are most often burgers. There is an Indian restaurant that I very much enjoyed but I was mainly overindulging in the salad bars of the SPAR supermarkets once I discovered them.

Love the location, a town on an island, the fjord and the mountains. And an airport close by. Love the history of Tromso (the reason we visited Tromso), the musea that tell about the history. And we love the combination of old wooden townhouses and the modern Vervet bydel. We had a week with nice weather, the amazing midnightsun and the ever changing light.

For me it was the entry point to sailing towards south islands and fjords. Tromso has everything you need, beautiful landscape as same as the rest of the Norway. Bit more expensive, but it is wat it is.
Very good hotel located in the city center, so everything is close. I was traveling by bicycle and was given a safe place to store it during my stay. Very nice service and nice breakfast. Trouble-free check-in and the ability to leave and return at any time, which is useful when hunting the northern lights.
This hotel is in a nice quiet location with easy to access the city centre either on foot (20 minutes) or by bus (less than 5 minutes). It's comfortable and there is a shared kitchen so you can self-cater and not spend as much (Norway is expensive!!).
The cleanliness, comfy bed, strong wifi signal, and heated bathroom floor were excellent. The breakfast had so many really good options
This hotel is located nearby from where all the tours to see the northern lights leave
very clean and modern. Really great host. Definitely the nicest “hostel” or shared airbnb i’ve ever been in. Right next to the beach where you can walk and see the northern lights sometimes.
Room was roomy, bathrooms were very nice, and the view allowed me to see the northern lights from my room on one of the nights I was there. Very comfortable and good value for money.
