Location and staff! The team went out of their way to ensure we had a good stay. Before arrival, communication was excellent and due to flight delays took away our worries. The restaurant is a must do as well (make a reservation as highly popular) and the breakfast was great too. We were spoiled! Highly recommend a stay and a next time will stay a bit longer. The area has lots to offer.

Really there's only one option in Meppel, but pleased to report the City Hotel is well up to standard. The room was spacious and well appointed. The bathroom was clean - with a really nice shower. My wife appreciated BBC channels in English on the TV.
Breakfast in the morning was delicious - much better than we've had elsewhere in the Netherlands.

We loved staying at Bovenhaar. The accommodation and hosts were very welcoming and we had everything we needed - comfy bed, big warm bathroom, coffee and tea. The whole area, especially the forest behind the property is definitely worth a visit. We connected well even with the curious chickens.

we really loved how big it was, and how idyllic the location was. It was really peaceful sitting outside at the tables in the sun. Also the kitchen space and its size was really great for a big group; and sitting around the TV/ in the living room space was quite nice to relax after a long day. Also the piano was fun to have, we used it :)
We loved the area of Havixhorst. There was a lovely forest around the hotel. Meppel is close by with nice restaurants. The area is perfect for cycling and for day trips to e.g. Giethoorn, Nationaal Park Wieden-Weerribben and Zwarte Dennen which is a great place for nature, hiking and cycling.
The hotel is truly magnificent. Beautiful building, rooms and staff are beyond professional and accommodating. My wife and I have travelled over 80 countries and the Chateauhotel De Havixhorst is likely the best accommodation we have ever had the privilege of visiting. And the restaurant and dining was just as exceptional. Truly a place worth making a special trip for.
It's an amazing hotel with fantastic helpful & warm staff--truly a a luxury experience. The room was fantastic, and the hotel was beautiful. The grounds were beautiful (though we didn't get to explore much due to a delayed arrival and rain), but a highlight was that we could enjoy the beautiful view while staying dry inside.
Everything. This place is simply amazing. We have visited many times and will return many more. The hotel is simply a beautiful piece of history that you can spend a few nights in, while enjoying amazing food and wine in the restaurant for dinner. The breakfast shouldn't be missed either.
The location and restaurant are excellent! And it’s not far from Giethoorn if you wish to visit it one day. You can also rent bikes directly at the hotel. The staff is super friendly and helpful.
