Worth staying for a weekend. (2 nights max) Buy some snacks/ groceries ahead of time just in case. Charming little beach town. I went with my mom and we spent most of the day out on the beach. I was sad to go the next day. Getting there was a bit confusing, so renting a car might be the way to go. However, there are taxis that go by fairly regularly. Make sure to get to Las Varas no later than 4:30pm so you don't lose sunlight as the road down to Chacala is winding. There are vans that fit up to 10 people that travel from Chacala to Las Varas. I believe it's about 10-20 pesos per person.

rustic, on the margin, great beach, nice people, good food.
rustic, on the margin, great beach, nice people, good food. it would be easy to turn nose up and not stay there, nothing really there, could turn you ankle just walking the "streets", wash "waste" water runs down middle of dirt street. Many Mexican locals do day beach trip there in tour buses, leave at end of day. I thought it was great but other travelers may not agree. All the resturants were good, street food good as well. roads and streets ruff to get around. sitting at your hotel terrace, or on the beach pretty much sums it up. I would go back, but would be very careful in booking a room..

We loved the ambiance of this quaint little beach side town.
We loved the ambiance of this quaint little beach side town. We found 2-days was long enough as there was not alot we wanted to do --- other than relax and enjoy the hotel and beach restaurants. Chicos was recommended and had great food and drinks.

Chacala is probably the most tranquil of beaches on the Riviera Nayarit. It's beach, during the shoulder season, at least, is quiet except for the weekends, when families come to play. There are only a handful of restaurants, but all offer delicious fish, and Chac Mool was our favorite for breakfast. (Skip the margaritas, which are largely a gringo drink, and opt for an ice-cold cerveza.) Chacala is not a party town, so come for the bathtub-like water, some worthy snorkeling (north end by the rocks) and birding, laid-back and friendly atmosphere, and general tranquility.
We loved our stay at Hotel Pura, Jerry was a fantastic host and made us feel very welcome. Our room had everything we needed and was very nicely done. Chacala town is only a short walk down the hill
Clean, good view and overall very nice. Nice quite little beach town with not to many tourist! This is our get-away place to stay while we're in Chacala.
