Dehlia was a lovely host. It felt like I was a guest in someone’s home. I don’t speak any Spanish but we communicated through google translate. The area is quiet, the bed was comfortable, and the room was spacious. Breakfast was included and set me up for a day at the adventure park. They offer transport for a small fee and tours as well.
It is about an hour walk to the adventure park and there is a supermarket just across the road.
Great value for money, highly recommended.

Excellent service, very attentive, very comfortable, I highly recommend it! It is a very quiet place, they have internet and hot water. I went in november, at night it is very cool, but there is heating and many warm blankets. They offer many interesting tours of the area. Very close to the cabin there is a little store that has everything you need and almost in front of that little store is a little restaurant or dining room that offers you delicious breakfast and dinner.p

We had a great time at Font's! Carlos, the host, is very friendly and helpful, and clearly cares about making sure his guests have a good time. The room was big and the bed had the most comfortable mattress we've slept on in Mexico. Kitchen was very well equipped and we got our own shelf in the fridge to keep things organized. There are friendly "community" dogs hanging out outside the house, which was a big plus as we really like dogs (they don't come in the house, for anyone who doesn't). Carlos also does tours and took us on a really nice tour to some nearby areas for a good price. All in all we can really recommend this hostel :)

Cabanas los portales was 5 kms to the adventure park which is the only attraction in the area. There was no public transport to it. It was certainly worth spending 5 hours there, taking the cable car and considering a guided hike.
The woman running the place was very kind
My very poor Spanish was a huge barrier

The room had really spectacular views of the canyon.
The room had really spectacular views of the canyon. The beds were comfy and the soap and shampoo provided were of a higher quality than other hotels we stayed in on this trip. The bathroom had an aggressively loud extractor fan and the lighting was pretty poor in the main area of the bedroom. The balcony only had one seat on it, so we couldn’t both sit and enjoy the view together.
We asked the receptionist if she could help us to book tickets for our onwards journey on the Chepe. She told us, with a smug grin, that we could only book via email. We found the reservation phone line with a quick google search. We also asked if there was an ATM in the town. She told us there wasn’t but failed to mention that it was possible to take out cash from the supermarket in the village. As we checked out the same receptionist sent us on the bus to the train station at the bottom of the driveway to the hotel. Our train wasn’t due for another two hours, so we took the five minute walk back up the drive to wait in the hotel lobby. The receptionist then said that we should wait in the lobby of another hotel. We decided to stay put.
The restaurant offered a tasty buffet breakfast, with chilaquiles, eggs, pastries and fruit. Unfortunately it was served half an hour later than the indicated time, and the eggs were cold. Lunch and dinner was offered at an exorbitant 495 pesos (no drinks included) and there was no vegetarian option, so we opted for 35 peso quesadillas and burritos with a friendly local gent down the road in the village. The bar menu advertised a jug of naranjada for 150 pesos, but we were charged over 250 at checkout.
If you’re willing to tolerate bad service and an average hotel for the view, it’s worth the money.

Beautiful views over canyon. Not much in village.
Beautiful views over canyon. Not much in village.
Chepe does not run on Wednesday and unfortunately this seems to be the day the teleférico and ziprider are serviced so we couldn't try. Pity.
Still worth going to park for views. We walked. Easy to do alone. Restaurant in park good and OK priced.
