Our host was wonderful and very helpful. He also shared local history and photographs of the town. He is an artist, and we talked art and painting which was quite fun. The apartment was well located in an unusual town. Birds were prevalent and our room view into a flowering shrub was quite relaxing. We had been driving for several days, so our stop here really recharged our batteries.

I loved everything about Alvarado - the architecture, the people, the food, the history- there was nothing not to love! Absolutely have to try the sidewalk food after 7 pm in the outer city and also have to eat at least once at Los Moninos - and trying a Nieve de coco is a must! We always felt safe and it is surrounded by water so it is not difficult to explore the city and find your way back - plus the plaza has a large cathedral easily spotted from a distance and a good visual marker if you start there but people are very helpful if you can speak even a little spanish they try hard to meet you halfway.
