This was a beautifully kept room in a homey guesthouse. This was my only experience at a ryokan, staying at a string of hotels in the rest of my stay, and the quiet, private and genial hospitality was a delightful change.

The owner and staff are very kind and caring. The woman who serves the meals was great and took time to help us understand what all the varieties of food were. It is a great traditional japanese inn experience with a nice onsen and good quality meals. The location has great views as well, it would be excellent during cherry blossom season.

Staying here was absolutely wonderful. These folks are incredibly generous, warm, interesting people who are fun to be around and who are happy to share their authentic Japanese country home with others.
Yuki and KoMay believe in organic, locally produced food and Yuki is an excellent cook. 'Breakfast' turned out to be a genuinely superb three course meal with home made hot soup, a gorgeous plate of all sorts of delicious treats including tempura herbs (from the garden), home made bread and little bean sweet treats. KoMay is working on his organic garden and Yuki turns it into a feast!
KoMay is a professional jazz pianist. He is quite brilliant at improvisation and is happy to entertain with music as well as conversation.
We felt incredibly privileged to stay with such genuine and interesting people.

A wonderful temple stay with the delightful Terashima family. A calm place on a hill with views across the tree tops to Yoshino. Mrs Terashima is a brilliant cook and runs a cafe of great charm. Beautiful gluten free vegetarian meals were prepared for me. I recommend taking the opportunity to have dinner cooked by her.
You may attend morning prayers. This opportunity I recommend taking.
Sleeping with fresh air and quiet, after city crowds, I found this a restorative place and I wish I had stayed longer.

Come during cherry blossom season, Yoshino town is famous for Mount Yoshino, a mountain full of cherry blossoms. The hike up to the summit from the trailhead takes about 2 hours, so plan accordingly. It is a relatively easy hike with asphalt roads and moderate inclination. There are also many temples and shrines along the way up.
Parking is really expensive along the hiking route, so taking a bus is probably the best option.

A great place to experience Japanese nature and calmness.
A great place to experience Japanese nature and calmness. We went there off season and were the only tourists around! The temple is a world heritage site and really magical. Everything in the village closes at 4pm which was a bit annoying sometimes but also forces you to rest and come
Down! Tip from us, definitely take the hike to the top of the mountains if the weather is nice, it’s super nice!

You need 2 nights and a full day here and you need to love mountains! On the first afternoon we walked from the ryokan down to the station and back using the cable car ropeway for the hard bit from the station. Lots of lovely shrines and templea and family run cafes. Day 2 get ready to hike up Yoshino mountain along paved road to see the remaining shrines and temples. From the ryokan it takes about 90 mins up and about 5kms. I am overweight with bad knees and i managed it so if you take it slowly you will be fine. Magnificent experience. When you get to the shrine number 11 on the local map, don’t do number 12 unless you are dead keen.my friend did that bit and he was scared at times. Narrow path. Rocky etc. I believe you can go on from the loop at the top which is about 30 mins to do another 4kms across to another temple. My advice is be happy with getting to 11, walk back down into the village and have a late lunch then go soak in your onsen!
The place is pretty. Tastefully furnished with everything necessary to stay, cook & wash. It is very near a supermarket. The train station is about 8min walk away. Train ride to Yoshino is about 4min (2 stops). Works for me and my family to do stay 2 nights and have a full day trip to Mt Yoshino. The bedroom with 2 beds is actually a separate house which gives you nice privacy.
It was a little hard to find because my maps told me to walk the path that you reach by car but then the staff messaged me what I needed to do,which I would recommend asking them before coming to make it easier. The room was spacious and clean. The shower was nice. Will come back again if I visit Yoshino. The place though is about 2 hours from Nara by train.
this is a very traditional Japanese hotel. located in walking distance from the UNESCO village snd sakura. a terrific onsen. quite large. The breakfasts were stunning. quite spectacular in the way they were presented. the staff were so friendly and endeavoured to help us even though we had little Japanese. highly recommended
