Nakao Kogen Hotel Kazaguruma, hotel in Hitoegane

Featuring a spa centre and hot spring bath, Kazaguruma (Kazeya Group) Nakao Hotel is located in Takayama. Free WiFi is offered throughout the property.

Excellent value for money at this hotel in the mountains. I had the place to myself as a solo traveller and felt I was getting a great deal for a huge room and private hot spring bath looking out over trees with real hot spring water from the area. Private balcony in the room and all! Authentic Japanese breakfast and dinner and the host made the effort to change my advance order from fish to beef after I'd learned beef is a speciality in the region, and my god was it good. The hotel is slightly old fashioned in some of its design but I didn't feel that was a problem, and you would do best to have a car if you want to explore the area, but the hotel itself is right on a bus stop to Takayama so you can easily travel there like I did as a solo traveller getting public transport. Staff spoke English and were super attentive.

Kazeya, hotel in Hitoegane

Renovated in 2014, Kazeya overlooks the majestic Hida mountain range, and offers public and private hot spring-baths.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Kazeya Hotel, and it was by far the best experience I've ever had in Japan. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the warm hospitality and the exquisite attention to detail. The food at Kazeya Hotel is nothing short of fantastic. Each meal was a culinary journey, featuring the freshest ingredients and expertly crafted dishes that delighted my taste buds. The traditional Japanese breakfast and the multi-course kaiseki dinner were particularly memorable, offering a perfect blend of flavors and textures that showcased the best of Japanese cuisine. The onsen experience at Kazeya Hotel was truly exceptional, with a particular highlight being the private onsen. The private baths provided an intimate and serene environment where I could unwind and enjoy the therapeutic hot springs in complete privacy. The tranquil atmosphere, combined with breathtaking views of the surrounding nature, made each soak incredibly relaxing and rejuvenating. The meticulous design of the private onsen ensured a peaceful retreat, allowing me to immerse myself fully in the beauty and tranquility of the Japanese landscape. The rooms were spacious, comfortable, and beautifully designed, combining traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern amenities. Every aspect of my stay at Kazeya Hotel was meticulously planned to ensure the utmost comfort and enjoyment. Overall, my stay at Kazeya Hotel was an unforgettable experience. The superb food, the incredible private onsen, and the impeccable service made it the highlight of my trip to Japan. I highly recommend Kazeya Hotel to anyone seeking an exceptional and authentic Japanese hospitality experience.

Hidaji (Adult Only), hotel in Hitoegane

Nestled between untouched nature in the tranquil Northern Alps area, Hidaji offers spacious Japanese-style accommodation with traditional architecture.

The ryokan lobby is cosy and looks luxurious. The room is spacious and has an open-air bath for our personal use, which is really nice. There are also two private onsens (no need to reserve) which offer a different experience and view. I like the Kose skincare products provided. Dinner and breakfast are both elaborate with many dishes. The staff are professional and helpful. They provided welcome drink (hot tea) and fresh milk. There are also complimentary drinks eg Coke which you can collect and bring to the room. We came from Matsumoto, stayed one night and drove to Shinhotaka Ropeway after checking out. Also stopped by at Kita Alps Bridge (Okuhida Onsengo Nakao) to take photos, before heading to Takayama.

Yamazatonoiori Soene, hotel in Hitoegane

Set amid a beautiful landscape in Okuhida Onsengo hot-spring area, Yamazatonoiori Soene offers beautiful rooms in a Japanese style with river or garden views.

Serene, authentic, and classy, this place has it all. It is criminally good value for the money. The keiseki dinner and breakfast were out of this world, probably the best meals I’ve ever had in my two trips to Japan (I’m fussy). A particular shout out to a staff member called Bhesh, a lovely Nepalese man who was extremely kind and helpful, I hope the hotel is rewarding him well for his excellent work.
