North Star Hotel Olafsvik, hotel in Ólafsvík

Centrally located in the old fishing village of Olafsvik, this hotel is less than 1 km from the harbour. North Star Hotel Olafsvik is set amongst the scenic surroundings of Snaefellsjokull Glacier.

Breakfast location was excellent but the choices were limited. There was ample supply for what appeared to be a low level of bookings at the hotel.

This was the most phenomenal stay we had during our 16 day roadtrip all around Iceland. And I doubt it will be easy or even possible to find something closely comparable in Iceland regarding features, ambiente and pricing. Due to a miscommunication we luckily (!) arrived too early and met the host's go-to handyman while he fixed the dish washer. We talked with him for hours and had the best kind of welcome and so many first hand anecotes about the icelandic life. Again, thank you so much, Fenrir!

Small, quiet Icelandic town but with enough facilities to support a vacation stay. Plan to get all your supplies by 18:00 as stores close then. Location is central to all sites on the peninsula. Not many restaurants in Olafsvik and those open were closed or on limited hours in the off season (late September) but there are some in nearby towns that were open.

Bikers paradise is far more beyond our expectations. it is close to church mountain and national park, sea views and mountain views with some waterfalls. The whole family of the host is one of the kindest people we have ever meet. They are very happy to help whenever their guests need. Apparently we were acknowledged they have helped many guests for free, such as stuck in the snow, car breakdown , late arrival without food etc.

A lot of things to see around the peninsula - make the circular drive around the tip. Visit Laugarbrekka, Malarrif Ligjthouse, Rauðfeldsgjá Gorge, and the Gatklettur. A lot of restaurants nearby (I had some great fish n chips while there). Local folks are courteous and helpful. I hated to leave.

Ólafsvík is the larger of settlements around Snaefellsjokull national park. There are plenty of things to see on this end of West Iceland, so 2-3 days is a good length of stay here. It has a bank, shop, and gas station; a fairly remarkable church, and a post office.
