We stayed in the Suite, which was amazing. The hotel has been redone since our last visit a number of years ago. There was a beautiful sitting area with a sofa, table, chair and TV. The adjacent sleeping area had a king sized bed and its own TV. The bathroom was spacious with a separate soaking tub and walk-in shower. The rain head in the shower was excellent. There were personal items provided as well as everything needed for the bath.
The food in the restaurant was excellent as well.
The reception staff were very friendly and helpful.

View was amazing! Hot tub was so nice. Washer and seperate dryer was a huge bonus! Plenty of space for our group to spread out. House was funky and antiquated in all the best ways :)

High quality apartment, beds great etc.
High quality apartment, beds great etc. Problem was getting there was a hassel of the off road time with very difficult roads. Too expensive given that. And it was a construction site, per the picture out of our window.

There was a lot of noise.
There was a lot of noise. We weren't on the main building and when people walked in the hallway you got a lot of noises. Also the fan in the toilet turned on every time you turned on the lights and it stayed on for 15 minutes after.

We stayed in Kirkjubaerjarklaustur and made day trips to the glacier and to black beach. If you have a car, it is a great place. The scenery is beautiful and it is a good location to explore the south eastern part of the island. It is a bit of a drive for groceries and I suggest you buy them in Reykjavik or at a larger town on the way to the south.

Cute small town with a pretty waterfall at the top of the hill. A couple of restaurants and a small market were easily available. The hotel we stayed at was outside of the town itself but was an easy drive away. The town was also close to many beautiful sights, including Vatnajokull National Park and Diamond Beach.

Great location, especially if you are in Iceland only for couple of days, this would be one of the best choices. From this location, you can make several amazing trips to the surrounding locations. The most interesting places offered by southern Iceland are reacheble from this area as a "base camp".

This was the last self-catering stop on a trip around the Iceland Ring Road. The house — on what was originally a farm — has been beautifully renovated. Cooking facilities were good, and there were lots of pots, pans, crockery and cutlery (this was the best-equipped kitchen area by far of the four self-catering places we stayed). The bathroom was spacious with an excellent shower. Living area and separate bedroom were comfortable and stylish. Good communication with the owner. We’d certainly book again if we re-visited the area.
This property was my groups favorite during our 10 days in Iceland. Its super cozy and fit my group of 6 just fine. The house is actually 2 houses. You have to go outside to get to the other one which my friends loved the privacy. One house has 2 bedrooms with 4 beds and a bathroom with shower. The main house also has 2 bedrooms with 4 beds, a loft, bathroom with shower and kitchen/livingroom. I went in January which required 4 wheel drive. One of our cars got stuck at the base of the driveway briefly. Luckily we found a shovel.
The hotel is very well located for any road trip in the South of the country or if you drive via the Ring road. Next to all points of interest nearby such as Fjaðrárgljúfur and Skaftafell national park.
The room we booked was very clean, the bed was very comfortable, lovely staff, the hotel is very spacious in the middle of nature with mountain and field views and had also nice facilities. We higly recommend it and will definitely book there again if we come back to South Iceland.
This place for sure is the best location I have stayed in Iceland. The hosts were very available to answer our questions and give us advic you stay in a beautiful wooden bungalow all for you. The bed is very comfortable and you have all the conforts that you need. The breakfast is amaizing you can find whatever you desire.
The structure offer also the possibility to have dinner in the location and every plate we had was delicious.
Highly recommended
We stayed at Hotel Laki for 1 night during our Ring Road trip. We arrived a bit early and our cottage was not yet ready, so we were given the option to stay in the hotel. Having the on-site restaurant was great, we had both a dinner and breakfast at Hotel Laki. I also had a load of laundry I wanted cleaned, gave it to the reception desk at 7:00 pm, and it was ready the next morning after we finished our breakfast. A great stay!
Kunkubakkar Guesthouse is a simple but very cozy place to stay when driving at the ring road in Iceland. There’s nothing fancy on it but, in the other hand, you are going to find good structure for a very nice shower, very comfortable beds for a good night of sleep and an enjoyable breakfast. Not to mention the entire staff, people super friendly that make the difference ;)
We love that the apartments were 7km away from Main Road 1. You enter a vast lava rock field you can feel the loneliness of Iceland and realize you really are in the Polar Artic Circle!! The road to the apartments is in good condition nothing to worry about. The apartment itself was great we found everything we needed to cook and sleep comfortable
This was a great location! Very close to some waterfalls, not a far drive from Jókalsárlön where some of the ice cave tours start from. There was a nice restaurant at the hotel. Modern and clean design, great kitchen for as small as the room was.
Great location., nice staff and very clean. As for all other accommodations on Iceland- at least when booked a bit late, the place was rather expensive compared to what you got. However, the guesthouse is great, and breakfast fine etc.
We rented 4 individual bungalows for our group of family & friends. They were rustic & lovely! Exactly what we wanted. Quiet and set away from the hotel but an easy walk to the restaurant/bar. We would definitely go back.
Such an interesting location if you want to experience a good quiet Icelandic night. Beautiful surroundings, only 47 km from Vik. The cottage had everything you need for long as well as short stays. Strongly recommended
The room was clean, and the beds were comfortable. Breakfast was good, fairly standard for what I would expect for a decent Iceland hotel. The supper buffet was also good. Very quiet, rural location.
The room was super cozy. Breakfast was good. The hotel restaurant served us some of the best food we've had in Iceland!
The staff was very friendly and made us feel like home at all times.
Great floor to ceiling windows with sliding doors in each room. Very nice and modern rooms. Great food - including out first breakfast buffet in Iceland with scrambled eggs!
Loved the waterfall behind the hotel. Walking distance to cool sites. Beautiful view out our window. They hand out a pre-plated breakfast which was more than enough food.
Great location, clean and comfortable rooms with good bathrooms. Staff friendly and good breakfast included in the price. Great value too given general prices in Iceland.
