I stayed for 4 nights, longer than most others, I imagine. I had been to Iceland before and needed a "home base" to explore East Iceland. Hotel 1001 Nott suited perfectly. Gorgeous views, friendly staff, and comfortable rooms.

Maybe the best hotel we stayed at during our two-week road trip around Iceland! The room was comfortable and spacious, the location was good, and the staff were friendly. But the two things that stood out the most were the delicious breakfast that was way better than the other hotel breakfasts we’d had, and the fact that this hotel can do your LAUNDRY! On day 8 of our trip, this was clutch! And one load was only 2500 isk, which was a deal in our eyes to be able to leave the laundry while we explored.
Enjoying a spectacular position in a peaceful and quiet part of the town, is Hótel Valaskjálf, offering comfortable and fresh en-suite guest rooms with free Wi-Fi access.

Great proximity to Egilsstadir and surrounding locations. Good base location for 2 days. Loved the views, size of home and watching the farm animals.

This was a great stopping point after driving the eastern Fjords on a Sunday. They had a couple places that were open where we could eat, get gas and groceries. This town was a nice place to stay after driving through many of the lovely villages along the coast and before heading to Husavik. You're also close to Hengifoss and not far from Studlagil Canyon, though we only drove halfway down the road before we gt nervous with the icy road right on the side of a cliff.

We loved the tourist info center there along the lake with the Gunnar Gunnerson museum and restaurant. We had a great buffet meal there. We enjoyed the tourist rest area because the lady there spent time with us as we looked around at the exhibits. It was an unexpected surprise.

Good hotel overall.
Good hotel overall.
Locally, we went to Vik Baths, very good experience.
On our 10 day driving the Ring Road, we had already visited the Blue Lagoon. Vik Baths was an alternative to the Blue Lagoon, well worth visiting.

Small town, cannot say too much about it. We had here a stop and stayed at the Ormurrinn Cottages.
Egilsstadir has everything you need to fill up for your road trip: supermarket & gas station ;-)

Practical location. A lot of to explore around the town.
Practical location. A lot of to explore around the town. We were on a short travel and the weather was fine, so we didn't use a lot of services there. We are planning an other travel there because there are so much to do 😀
I’ve stayed here twice and absolutely adore this spot. It is located outside of Egilsstadir and sits on a tranquil bluff overlooking the lake. The hotel rooms are modern, spotlessly clean, and provide a lovely outdoor seating area. You can also wander down to a patch of beach on the lake. I booked lake view rooms both times, and the space was very comfortable, with a refrigerator, a desk, and a small table and chairs. I’m a vegan, and the restaurant had a really solid dinner option along with plant based milk and granola at breakfast.
A definite highlight of our Ring Road trip. After a boat trip on glacier lagoon and dramatic drive along the eastern fjords, Hotel 1001 was a treat from start to finish. Warm welcome, great room and view over the lake with a short walk to the (very) hot tub. Dinner - lamb and arctic char - spectacular and memorable. Breakfast too - delicious omelette made to order. Everyone very friendly. Left relaxed and recharged to continue north on ring road after a worthwhile detour via Hallormsstaðaskógur national forest. Thank you.
The cottage was lovely just a few minutes drive from the main shops/restaurants. Amazing location and the cottage was very clean, warm and sufficient amenities.
We were stuck in Egilsstadir due to a storm but we could still exit despite the heavy snow. The owner was super helpful when I called about road closures and also came with a digger and shovel to remove the deep snow after the storm in late March. I travelled the ring road and this stay was my favourite
- Excellent staff! The girls were so nice with lots of recommandations about what to see and where to eat. They reminded us of the Hot Tub at the terrace which we enjoyed very much. They also suggested we go see the Puffin (on the road 94) which we did and we enjoyed a lot (there were thousands of Puffins really close)
- The hotel room was big and clean with everything we need
- The hotel itself is situated in the big forest, really close to the town Egilstadir.
Location (next to a lake), breakfast, and the facility is great. The building has some character - not modern but has its own comfortable character. More like a spa comfy suite hotel next to a lake type of feel; not of a modern design and vibe. Furthermore, the hotel offers laundry service - though it's first come first served, it is a great differentiator for those traveling around the ring road and can use it in the middle of the trip to refresh up a bit.
The house is right outside the town of Egilsstadir, very easy to find.
We were met by a very friendly owner and his two lovely dogs. He was extremely helpful and the house was truly a gem!
Decorated with old-style furniture, but very cosy, clean and it has a hot tub outside with an amazing view! We wish we could have stayed longer and can definitely recommend it for anyone wanting to spend time at East Iceland!
The location is perfect, it is very near to a Bonus supermarket and a gas station. The room is so nice, it is small but it has everything you can need for one night stay. It is also a good place to see the northern lights, as it is far enough from the city lights from Egilsstadir. I strongly recommend this guesthouse!
This is a hostel not an hotel and is a quality stay for what it is. The room was basic but clean and comfortable. Showers and toilets were close to the rooms and were sufficient in number. The kitchen was was good too. Happy hour from 3 til 7 a bonus.
We liked our room and found it comfy and spacious enough. The hotel is very clean and has a nice lobby with lots of space. The front desk staff/concierge was especially friendly and helpful. Overall it was a great stay and I would stay here again.
Staff was very friendly, there was confusion between the hostel and hotel regarding the booking. At the end of the day still got what was listed on the site. The woman behind the front desk quickly fixed the issue and was very apologetic.
The staff was so helpful and friendly. The cottage was very clean and comfortable. It was very quiet and relaxing. The amenities at the main hotel were excellent. There are even some hot tubs.
The views were lovely and the wildflowers and birds around delightful. It’s a short walk from the lake where I swam in the morning (colds!), and a short drive from shops in Egilsstadir.
Clean, quiet, great breakfast. Homemade breads were amazing! The staff was friendly. Nice common areas. Great view of Lagarfljót river. 8 minutes away from Egilsstadir.
Hotel staff were very nice and answered a few questions about the area. We were shown to our room quickly within arriving and everything was very clean and orderly.
The hotel was very helpful when we had to change our booking and cut short our stay by a night due to bad weather. The Bar is lively and a nice place to relax.
