The location was amazing, it was so calm and surrounded by nature. It was so nice to relax in the hot tub after a full day of activity. It was the most memorable overnight stay while we've been in Iceland.

We stayed in a bungalow. We had a view of the ocean and the hot bath was just 20m from the bungalow. It was a great stay for our last night in Iceland. The location for us was perfect as we wanted to stay close to the main road on the way back to Reykjavik.
This hotel offers relaxing outdoor hot tubs, an 18-hole golf course and activities such as whale watching and snowmobile safaris. Reykjavik and Snæfellsnes National Park are a 1-hour drive away.

Quiet location with helpful staff. The front desk guy was calling rooms to alert people (per their request) about the Northern Lights. He even helped us adjust our iPhone camera so that we could get a decent picture. Beautiful breakfast room and view. Nice selection of food ranging from Icelandic to European treats. I would highly recommend this hotel as it is one of the better options in the area, which felt a little remote. But that's what we wanted as we thought our chance of seeing the Northern Lights would be better.
This property is 7 km from central Borgarnes and 30 minutes’ drive from Akranes. It provides accommodation with kitchen facilities and free WiFi in public areas.

Beautifully decorated home (all rooms including the toilet!) with a fully equipped kitchen. We stayed in the small twin room which fitted a small square table, a chair and a large bedside cabinet. The beds were comfortable and the shower/toilet was the most well furnished of all the places we stayed in Iceland - large sink, coat hanger and a bamboo chair! There was even a dog to play with in the cafe below :-)
The apartment - Öbbuhús is situated in Borgarnes and offers a terrace and a bar. This apartment has a garden and free private parking.

Great remote location. Also a perfect base to explore western iceland and/or Reykholt area.
We really enjoyed our stay, but I wouldn't stay here for more than a few days here for the reasons below.

Wonderfully secluded cottage in the middle of the countryside. Well situated for trips to Snaefellsnes. Very friendly and nice hosts living on with their farm next door. Possibility to book a guided horse ride with one of their icelandic horses, which was a magical experience!
The cottage was well equipped, clean and absolutely cozy. We really enjoyed our stay here and can fully recommend!

very nice accommodation, and wonderful communication with the owner
Busy little town, with various amenities. Has several museums in the area. A coastal path runs round the west side of the town giving good views of the area. There a number of food outlets along with a Netto supermarket. For refuelling purposes, there a three separate garages for fuel, next to route 1.

The local pool was lovely - we went in the evening, so it was dark (I really like this).
There was a local cafe/bar that served some great value meals - the lamb chops were sublime.
There is a lovely friendly vibe in Borganes, and I would highly recommend putting it on your trip.

It is a bit run down but it is quiet and the beds are comfortable. Like most of Iceland in our experience, the pillows could be better. Hot pot, coffee, tea, cream and sugar are provided, which was nice. There is free parking, however I can imagine at times it may be hard to find a spot as the lot supports the restaurant as well. We had dinner at the restaurant, food was good and the portion was large.
In a nutshell, this is a decent budget accommodation, with a restaurant on site which makes it convenient. If you plan to eat at the restaurant, make a reservation before 5pm. They were able to squeezed us in without one but there were many who were not as lucky.

Borgarnes is underrated as it doesn't have any bucket-list sights. It's a mid-size small town by Iceland standards, but it's got a lot to recommend it - it's a very typical Icelandic place, and one with a variety of landscapes and bay views.
The Settlement Museum is overpriced (as most Icelandic museums are), but even without a visit there, Borgarnes is a good place for walking. It also has some decent to excellent eateries (the Bara bar and restaurant in the heart of the town is outstanding, and even the N1 station cooks up some of Iceland's best meat soup.)

Beautiful views. Lots to do and see.
Beautiful views. Lots to do and see. An area with a lot of history. A good for both people who like to do independent activities and people who prefer guided tours. It is the place of viking settlements and the sagas. There is a Settlement museum to learn about it. Waterfalls and a la a tube cave you can take a tour of.

We had a few hours here on the way to the Basalt Hotel.
We had a few hours here on the way to the Basalt Hotel. Car parking was free. There was a pathed route to walk around the coast. We had coffee and lunch at a wonderful place called Blómasetríð - Kaffi Kyrrð. We sat outside in a beautiful courtyard/garden. The food was excellent and the staff were polite and kind.
Fjola and Jon were outstanding hosts. Our apartment on their farm was a haven for our stay near Borgarnes. Views of the surrounding fields were great, and such a nice change from city hotels. The apartment had everything we needed, including a filter coffee maker. The weather turned overnight, and roads were closed the next morning. Fjola kindly informed us of this and offered that we could stay longer, which was very generous.
I cannot recommend this place enough. We stayed at a number of hotels as we ventured around Iceland, and this was a true highlight. The location and the views are incredible, the bedroom and bathroom (huge shower!) are amazingly comfortable, but the highlight was the incredible hospitality. We will definitely be back to visit Iceland, and will be staying here again next time we’re back.
Very good value - we had a 22h layover in Iceland, and we were able to rent a car and whole trailer cottage for cheaper than staying at a hotel closer to airport. It was an easy drive with nice views. Great place to sleep before next days flight - we also drove a little more to look at views in the evening. Cozy and functional, with a view to mountain tops.
We were given an upgrade to a cabin which was exceptional - to be by the sea alongside mountains was simply extraordinary. Very cosy feel. And definitely don't be put off by the fact this is a "1 Star" hotel. It's far from it. The room was very clean, the hot showers worked perfectly and we had everything we needed.
Very friendly staff. Optional (not included) breakfast on site. Great view from the hotel. Quaint hotel. Upper floor has slanted ceilings - my tall husband banged his head a time or two, but I was fine. Small, cozy rooms. Fine for a night. Not sure I’d want to stay here long-term.
Discreet but a wonderful hotel with a hot tub overlooking the valley. Modern, nice size rooms, comfortable beds, nice shower room, everything tastefully decorated. Great views through the big windows from the dining room. The staff are very nice. We strongly recommend a stay.
Excellent location for our last night on the Snaefellsness Peninsula before returning home. The hotel was clean, staff pleasant, and the onsite restaurant made everything easy. Our room had a view of the bay. Sunrise the next morning was spectacular!
Solid hotel for a suitable stay in Borgarnes area. We got well assisted by Natacha and when I imagined that I finally found a true sympathetic Icelander, she turned out to be Slovenian (another beautiful country). The breakfast was also very good.
Beautiful hotel in an amazing location. We had such a good dinner and breakfast was generous. Their hot tub was special - beautiful surroundings. We especially enjoyed the view across the fields out the huge dining room windows.
Somehow I thought it is going to be cute boutique hotel, but this is just a hostel in an old building.
Couldn’t stay there, so we left. It was my fault I didn’t read description good enough, so I can’t rate them too bad
Very easy and flexible check-in and check-out. The cabin was clean and well equipped. The biggest advantage of this place is an opportunity to walk outside the farm and pet sheep or Icelandic horses.
The room had a good size and was clean and had good blackout curtains. Bed confortable. Parking options right between the two hotel buildings and in general a very good location in Borgarnes.
Really friendly host in a beautiful location. Borgarnes is a great base to get out and discover this part of Iceland. The accommodation is a real home from home place to stay.
nice hotel on our way to Akureyri. We had the hostel room for 6 and it was perfect. The breakfast is good. You can walk to the Swimming pool and around to enjoy the views.
