We have stayed at Medieval Rose a number of times and have always found it to be excellent. It is very conveniently located for us at the start and end of island hopping trips. It is located in the centre of Rhodes old town and just a few steps away from shops and restaurants, yet it is quiet. It is basic but very clean and Olga is a wonderful host who always makes us feel very welcome. We have no hesitation in recommending the property

The hotel is a little oasis. We were made to feel very welcome from the moment of arrival. Breakfasts were amazing eat al fresco in the hotel's beautful courtyard. Home made food and some variety each morning -- and always slightly more than we could readily eat -- breads, a savoury item, fresh fruit, cake, eggs, yogurt with honey, all delicious. The room was very attractively presented with plenty of lighting and a small balcony outside lookng onto the courtyard. The provision of a kettle in the room was much appreciated. The location is on a quite car-free street which runs east into the heart of the new town. The historic fortified old town, which is fascinating, is easily reached on foot. Even more so is the beach that runs around the north of the city with views of Turkey in the near distance. Lots of eateries around about, but since we were there so far out of season, only some were open. We found Pan e Vino, recommended by the hotel, excellent.

We arrived unexpectedly at Castellum - we had to make a spontaneous last minute reservation here due to some “adventures” in Rodos Old Town (we had arrived at another hotel we booked just to find no one there and then to find out that they have given our room so smn else). But we were lucky to find and book a night at Castellum where we were warmly greeted by personnel, given a very nice room with a spacious balcony and explained about all the hotel facilities and all-inclusive system and welcomed to the dinner which has just started.
The room was new, nice and clean with a great tropical shower and all the required amenities.
The staff in the restaurant was fast, positive and helpful
and the cocktails in the bar tasted very nice. You can also take drinks from the restaurant with you and finish them in your room or on your way to the Old Town.
There is a nice lounge area with sofas by the pool where you can drink coffee or a cocktail or have ice-cream.
Also it is very convenient to go and wander about the Old Town and get to the hotel for lunch which is included in the price of your room - the hotel is just 10 mins walk away.
We would like to sincerely express our gratitude to Yannis, Rania and Matina for their professionalism, your welcoming touch just made our day! Each of them deserves appreciation. Keep on spreading the Greek hospitality (totally lost in some places we visited during this trip) as you do!
We travelled in Rodos for 2 weeks and Castellum was the best in terms of atmosphere, welcome and value for money, with a very nice location and renovated rooms.
When we are close to the Old Town - we will definitely come again and we will recommend the hotel to our friends and relatives.
If you are looking for luxury -I would say this one would rather be more of a city hotel with all you need but the atmosphere is very democratic, warm and positive!
Thank you guys - you are great and we enjoyed staying with you even though it was only 1 night.

Rhodes has a long and complex history. There are interesting ancient Greek remains, particularly the stadium and odeion -- plus the many artefacts and sculptures in the excellent archaeological museum. The medieval old town has massive fortifications and lots of narrow medieval streets -- not just the famous Street of the Knights -- that can take you away from the other commercial streets, though these are often old also. The grandmaster's palace (or castello) is as much a 1930s filmset from the when this was an Italian colony as it is a medieval building. Remants of a fascist colonial past are also found in the new town, but the several narrow -- and car free, but not moped free -- streets that are to be found are attractive. The beach (Elli Beach) is extensive with fine views towards Turkey, though much of the town adjacent to beach is given over to large hotels. We visited well out of season -- early November -- and numbers of restaurants etc. were closed, but it was pleasantly warm (low 20s) and not very busy. In season it would be very hot and very crowded. There are lots of street cats, but the locals do take care of them -- numbers of shops and kind locals provide food, water, and sometimes ad hoc shelter.

I loved walking around Old Town for the sight-seeing, restaurants and shopping. Walking and driving around New Town, where I was staying was less crowded and a beautiful experience. One has to do both. I learned the layout of the town within a very short space of time. I recommend hiring a car and being flexible. By the time I left, after one week, I had driven around the whole island, from Rodos to Prasonisi and back. As we drove to the various monuments and tourist attractions spots, we came across the most beautiful beaches, met local people and dined in country restaurants along the way. I truly felt I had a holistic experience of the town and the island.

The medieval city is a fascinating labyrinth of narrow, twisting alleyways, opening out periodically on to larger squares, crammed with shops, restaurants, cafes and bars. It is just steeped in history. One of the best preserved medieval cities in Europe. A walk around the entire moat is highly recommended to give an impression of the sheer scale of the place and to appreciate the work that went into constructing such a colossal structure. A true work of superb architecture.

Fine museums and much less crowded than the main streets.
Fine museums and much less crowded than the main streets. I can warmly recommend The Jewish Museum, The Archaeological Museum, the Grand Master's Palace, yet also the relatively small museum of modern Greek art. My greatest experience in terms of the nature was going to the south western part of Rhodes, not least Mount Attavyros.

I am interested in history so I especially enjoyed looking around the old town, the acropolis and the archaeological museum. The Palace of the Grand Masters was more interesting to see from the outside rather than paying to go in - in my opinion.
Walking in the (dry) moat was good, you could really appreciate the size of the walls.
The town is small enough to walk everywhere, even from the new town to the old but there were buses available.
I went to Lindos on a boat trip and visited the acropolis there, but I wouldn't go back there: it was ridiculously busy, narrow lanes where you could hardly move for the crowds.
