Samaria Hotel, hotel in Chania

Located in the heart of Chania, within 1476 feet from the Venetian harbor, the modern Samaria Hotel is ideally located just above the main square, next to the central bus station.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at this wonderful hotel, and I can't wait to share my experience. **Location:** The location is fantastic, just a short walk to the old town port and local shops and restaurants. This convenience made exploring the area incredibly easy and enjoyable. **Breakfast:** Every morning started off perfectly with a delicious breakfast that featured a variety of local options. There were fresh fruits, an assortment of yogurts, and delightful pastries. Each dish was prepared with care, making breakfast a highlight of my stay. **Check-In Experience:** I encountered an issue with my booking, which was not the hotel's fault. However, the staff went above and beyond to help me correct it. They offered me a glass of cold water and a comfortable couch while sorting out the issue. Their hospitality made the check-in process smooth and stress-free. **Front Desk Staff:** The front desk team was exceptionally welcoming and friendly. They provided excellent recommendations for local restaurants and even helped book a trip to Loutro. Maria, in particular, was incredibly helpful and attentive, ensuring all my needs were met. **Bellmen:** The bellmen were just as friendly and welcoming. Every day when we returned, they greeted us warmly, assisted with our vehicle, and offered recommendations for the next day's activities. Their friendly demeanor made us feel right at home. **Evening Entertainment:** After a night out on the town, which is conveniently only a few minutes away, we enjoyed the soothing sounds of piano music in the hotel's lounge. This added a touch of elegance and relaxation to our evenings. **Overall:** My stay at this hotel was fantastic. The combination of excellent service, delicious breakfast, and the friendly atmosphere created by both the front desk and bellmen staff made for an unforgettable experience. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a great stay.

FAQs about hotels in Chania

A Charming Crossroads of Civilisations

Situated on the west part of Crete, the city of Chania is the second largest in this beautiful Greek island. Featuring rich history, breathtaking architecture and pristine beaches, Chania will take you to a fascinating journey through time.

Get your camera and wander around the narrow alleys of the old town or walk on the romantic promenade area of the old harbour with the iconic lighthouse. Set on a small hill, the central part of the town is called Kastelli and is populated since the Neolithic period.

A crossroads of civilisations, the city of Chania offers a harmonic combination of Venetian, Turkish and traditional Greek architecture. Do not miss the Greek Orthodox Cathedral Church of Chania, the Mosque of the Janissaries and the Venetian Fortification Walls.

The vibrant area of the new and old town has local taverns serving delicious regional specialties and tsikoudia. If you are lucky you might hear a Cretan mantinada, an improvised folk song about the everyday life.

Located on the Akrotiri Peninsula, the Chania International Airport is about 17 km from the city centre and offers year-round and seasonal flights to London, Brussels, Athens and Thessaloniki. Booking.com will help you find the right hotel, guest house or apartment in Chania.

Chania is so beautiful. Narrow streets with shops and traditional places. It is a romantic city with the old town and port making the scenery breathtaking. A lot of options of restaurants, great traditional food. The people are very hospitable and kind. I will definitely visit again.

Very picturesque (old harbour and streets off) Kept very clean with frequent rubbish collections. No itinerant street vendors. Restaurants mainly traditional greek + italian no persistent "hustling" to partake. Varied selection of shops from tourist to top end. Traffic free around harbour. Boat trips and horse and carriage tours from harbour side. Several museums to visit nearby all walkable, though the new archeological museum is a good hike along the coast. Note that the famous covered market is not functional at the time of writing (no roof) and whist it is a impressive building, not much is happening construction wise.

The town still has charm and character.

The town still has charm and character. There are lots of delicious restaurants, and if you look around it doesn’t have to be expensive. It was beginning to get busy by mid June, too many people for me. So earlier or later would be better . There are quite a few artists, workshops which are worth visiting. Crafts need to be kept alive .

It is very picturesque and easy to walk around.

It is very picturesque and easy to walk around. A vast selection of restaurants. They are quite pricy compared with other parts of the island like Hersonnisus where we were staying for longer. Parking overnight was also expensive - £25. However I felt that the car was safe and secure and they were very helpful at finding you a place to park. Many of the restaurants only wanted cash. A charming port and a great place to people watch and chill.

In the past couple of years Chania has become VERY crowded.

In the past couple of years Chania has become VERY crowded. I would say to avoid it completely in July and August. Along with more tourism there are more shops selling junky souvenirs not from Greece. But we persisted and found some lovely high-quality things made in Greece. We rented a car but I wouldn't bother again as it's so congested and hard to park when you return from a day trip. We loved the restaurant Salis along the waterfront and went twice. A store called Haris Cotton sells nice quality linen clothes. The tiny folklore museum was interesting. We did a walking tour of the artisans of Chania and it was good.

Incomparable view. Incredibly comfortable, spacious and beautiful room. Breakfast was outstanding. Staff was incredibly gracious and helpful. I had to work remotely while here, and the wi-fi worked great. I have lived in Crete, I visit often, and have stayed in many hotels on the island across a wide budget range. I also visit other areas of Greece from time to time. Lagon - Life Spirit Boutique Hotel easily surpasses most of the other hotels I've stayed in as far as comfort, luxury, beauty and hospitality, and I hope to return again soon.

I had a very pleasant stay at Hyperion Hotel in Chania, Crete. The hotel is quite new, and the bedroom was spacious and very clean. The bed was extremely comfortable, contributing to a restful sleep. The staff were very nice and accommodating, even allowing us to use the locker rooms to change after we checked out before heading to the airport. The hotel's location is great, close to a local beach, which is convenient for a quick swim in the ocean. Overall, it’s a pretty good hotel with excellent amenities and service.

The location was great, right in front of the beach. Cleanliness was superb with towels changed everyday. The jacuzzi on the terrace was a bonus but could be perfect if the walls of the terrace were made of glass instead of concrete to enable a perfect view even when you're in the jacuzzi. Stylish and sleek hotel within a walking distance from restaurants and the old town. Our room was comfortable, clean and had a spectacular view of the sea. The staff were warm, friendly and provided great tips for going around Crete.

I felt better here than in a 4 star hotel. I am glad that we chose the apartment at Meryland. Maria was the best!!! I will recommend this place to anyone who wants to spend their holidays in Crete!!

Really good location in old town, with plenty of restaurants around. The host gave us a lot of recommendations for places to eat, drink, things to visit and the best beaches.
