The location next to the quay at the foot of Clovelly is wonderful, giving views along the coast and up to the very pretty village. The breakfast was very welcome - we arrived too late for dinner unfortunately.
Set in 2.5 acres, surrounded by moorland and unspoilt countryside, this award-winning property is a former 16th century Coaching Inn, full of character and warmth.

Breakfast was really good and friendly service. We only wanted to stay at quintessential English pubs during our visit and this fit the bill perfectly. Our bed was good, loved the low ceilings and beams and sloping floors in the bathroom.

Myself and my other half and our two dogs had the pleasure of staying at the Old Smithy Inn for a couple of nights this week and we would recommend it to anyone, we had a lovely warm welcome on arrival and were shown to our room, the room itself is compact but has everything you need, the bathroom is clean, bright and airy with a wonderful powerful shower, the bed is is incredibly comfortable and has lovely clean fresh good quality bed linen and extra blankets if needed, plenty of sockets, hairdryer and a well stocked tea/ coffee tray, there is also a lovely little balcony where you can sit, chill and watch the sun set after a lovely day enjoying the stunning area. The location itself is perfect, a pretty little village that’s lovely and quiet, even with the velux windows open overnight ( it was quite a warm night when we stayed) it was lovely and peaceful and we had a good nights sleep. The beer garden is kept beautifully with flowers and plants everywhere, Everyone we met, both staff and regulars at the pub, were lovely and made us feel at home, the pub is incredibly dog friendly and the staff were happy for us to have the dogs in the bar area and breakfast area, the meals themselves were all really delicious, well cooked and good quality ingredients, and my other half sampled several of the beers all of which he said were very good, even the dogs were spoilt with sausage at breakfast! An absolute gem of a place that we will be happy to return to.
Uniquely situated on the South West Coast Path, the Hartland Quay Hotel boasts an outdoor seating area leading to the sandy Quay Beach. The hotel also offers a museum, a bar, and stunning sea views.

Great breakfast, fresh fruit salad, cereals, yogurts, toast, assorted drinks, cooked to order hot breakfast with wide choice. Towels and bedding changed during our 5 day stay, room cleaned every day. Very knowledgeable hosts in respect of the local area. Lifts offered to start and end points of our planned coastal walks. Very good choice of local eateries for the size of the village within easy walking distance, friendly staff and 'locals' in the pub. Very friendly hosts, highly recommended. We wouldn't hesitate to visit again.
