The Birchtree Hotel, hotel in Kippford

This family-run hotel offers attractive en-suite accommodation in the centre of Dalbeattie, on Scotland's beautiful Solway Coast in Kirkcudbrightshire.

Comfortable bedroom, it can be very noisy if you want an early night as it's just over a pub. We didn't get too bothered by that as we went to bed late. They had gluten free toast and adapted the breakfast to suit me.

The Lady Maxwell Room at Buittle Castle, hotel in Kippford

We truly loved our stay, no more than our two spaniels. Tobias was an incredible host. We have never visited such a dog friendly place. Our room was beautiful, great care and attention has been given to the decoration and furnishings. I liked the fresh flowers and coffee machine as well as the Scottish breakfast that was served each morning in the room, with a pot of fresh coffee. The communication throughout the booking was brilliant. Tobias was warm and welcoming. It’s a very peaceful and quiet venue. The grounds are lovely to walk around. Our dogs just loved it.

The Imperial Hotel, hotel in Kippford

This friendly hotel is situated in the centre of Castle Douglas, with a location ideal for fishing, walking, cycling, golfing and relaxation.

DO NOT BOOK!! HEALTH & SAFETY HAZARD, RISK!! Health and Safety nightmare!! Disgusting, not fit for purpose, thieving staff member, stole 20 pounds, did not give to hotel owner. Stoned receptionist, aggressive ?domestic staff member, liars, stated I booked a second room when I didn't, , lied about our behaviour at the hotel when I am in recovery from breast cancer and undergoing chemotherapy, I cannot drink alcohol. Room was a nightmare enough!! Bedroom, bathroom flea infestation, human fluids everywhere, shower unusable, black mould, rust , faeces on toilet, floors semen on walls, bedding, bed bugs, not fit for purpose, I would not put an ant in here, never mind a family with a child. Hotel rooms on booking.com are 10yrs old,NOT true reflection, no pool table, pics on there are not reflection of grime, mould, rust and bugs. Booking.com, worst customer experience ever, simply not interested, after viewing pictures, they thought fit for people to stay there overnight!! Look at Trip Advisor, x 43 pictures uploaded by me just now, this is what people booking face. Booking .com -DO NOT USE, they advertise this and then have the audacity to tell me on phone that the advertised pictures reflect the hotel. When I went into restaurants and told them where I was staying, sympathy given, as renowned in the area as a flea pit, all people we spoke to in area advised, this hotel is filthy renowned, and should be shut down, run by staff who steal and stink of cannabis.

Craigadam, hotel in Kippford

The award-winning Craigadam offers luxurious accommodation around 20 minutes from Dumfries.

Large beautifully decorated room opening onto extremely pretty courtyard behind a large attractive country house. Our hostess, Cecilia was welcoming, thoughtful, charming and friendly. Breakfast in the family dining room was an experience in itself. The tariff was extremely modest considering the quality of the accommodation.

    A stunning village. Incredible scenery.

A stunning village. Incredible scenery. Great hotel and super coffee shop. RNLI gift shop in the village. Walk to Rockcliffe around 20 minutes through woodland. Wear trainers not heels. Once at Rockcliffe you can walk to Castle Point. Says it is half a mile - more like 2 miles. People also walked across mud flats to island.

Kippford is the perfect picturesque spot for a quiet coastal getaway. There are two hotels both serving food, plus a lovely tearoom. We stayed at The Anchor where we had a tasty lunch from a table at the front overlooking the sea. Also enjoyed post-walk coffee, hot chocolate and cake from the tearoom, which also has picnic tables at the front. Good walks from the door, including a lovely circular one to Rockcliffe beach and back, all all with wonderful views.

Kippford is a quiet seaside hamlet with a couple of accommodating pub/hotels and an excellent location on the Solway Firth, handily placed for exploration of an overlooked part of Scotland, the south west, which is rich in history, scenery, and distant from urban life with all its associated advantages and disadvantages. Come for the peace, the coast, the kindliness of strangers, and return home knowing you've had a good break with plenty of sea air and tranquillity.

Kippford is a friendly and very pretty village. There are lots of walks nearby, and also 2 pubs - both which were very good. The food in the anchor hotel was varied and very well priced. Walking is the easiest way to get round Kippford. Only sad there is not really a beach, but further round there is a beach but not sand, cockle shells- very pretty

Kippford is an attractive, quiet, small village built along the estuary with lovely views. A good location for watching shore birds and red squirrels There is a pleasant circular walk through the woods and a small marina. Although it is set away from the main road it is easy to get to other places in the area.

Kippford is a lovely place and looks different during high/low tide. You can walk to the beach which is actually shells rather than sand which is awesome and during low tide you can walk to the neighbouring areas and quite far out to sea, it's awesome especially if you have a dog. Just make sure you roll your trousers up high enough or wear shorts as some places you kinda sink a little as the sea bed around the area is clay like, though it does make for a good giggle. There's also some lovely walks which include woodland, one walk in particular leads to the Mote of Mark which is definitely worth going up as the view you get is spectacular. Be careful with the steps as they're not typical stone steps, they're more like uneven rocky steps at different heights and can be slippery, it's not treacherous, just be careful especially if taking dogs/children. There's also an island which you can walk to during low tide however, during certain times of the year they do ask if you can avoid going over there due to birds nesting/feeding though during this time it may be good for bird watchers as you'd definitely be able to see them with binoculars. There's a lovely little shop that does fantastic ice cream, my partner had gooseberry & elderberry flavour and it was delicious and refreshing, they also do ice cream for dogs that they top with a little dog biscuit which mine absolutely loved! Overall Kippford is a lovely place to visit with lovely welcoming people and definitely worth seeing.
