FAQs about hotels in Inverness

Gateway to the Highlands and Loch Ness

A jewel with historic buildings and charming streets, Inverness is surrounded by a typical Scottish Highland landscape. It is located 10 km from Loch Ness, along the mouth of the Ness River and the Moray Firth coast. It is regarded as the northernmost city in the United Kingdom, and capital of the Highlands.

Take a walk around the Old Town, visit St Andrew’s Cathedral, and make a stopover in the charming Victorian Market. The Old High St Stephen's Church is the oldest building in town, and has been a religious site since pre-Christian times.

The Inverness Castle overlooks the river and is nowadays the seat of the Sheriff Court. A hotel in Inverness city centre is ideal to enjoy the different cultural and recreational activities in town.

Watch the Atlantic salmon jumping out the river near the Ness Islands, and try to catch a glimpse of the famous monster of Loch Ness. The Cairngorms National Park is 40 km away, and Chanonry Point is the best spot to watch dolphins, just 24 km away.

Inverness hotels include a large offer of small, cosy guest houses, B&B’s, and rural cottages, allowing a closer contact with the nature. Don’t miss the Inverness accommodation deals on Booking.com!

Easy to get to city whether travelling by road, rail, bus and air (air port slightly out of Inverness). We travelled by train and we had lunch in the Ash Restaurant next to the railway station as we had time to kill before we got into our apartment and food was excellent. We also visited the Palace hotel for afternoon tea which was also good. Plenty of eateries, pubs and shops

Inverness is perfect for a holiday where you want to prioritize gentleness, quiet, & rest but balanced with time outdoors & access to general amenities (restaurants, pubs, historic sites, etc). Ease of access to the rest of the highlands (and numerous day tour options for the Isle of Skye) are a definite plus for those wanting to go further afield.

Inverness is a lovely place and ideally situated to go off...

Inverness is a lovely place and ideally situated to go off and explore Loch Ness. The city itself has plenty to see and do with some lovely eating and drinking establishments. The people were warm and friendly and it felt particularly safe when out walking at night. We were there to take part in the Etape Loch Ness which is a cycling challenge around the entire Loch Ness and up in to the mountains. It was perfectly organised and an event i'd thoroughly recommend doing. The walks along the river and around the small islands on the river are really lovely and you are ideally placed for exploring the beautiful countryside that surrounds Inverness.. we will definitely be going back again.

We traveled all over Scotland on our holiday on the train so for that the location was perfect step out of station next step into the hotel. Room cosy it was advertised at, very small would be more realistic especially for the price we paid, if it had been £100 cheaper for the 3 nights we stayed i'd have been happy but it was the least value for money of all the 5 hotels we stayed in on our holiday, it was clean etc no issues there. We didn't eat in the hotel spent our food money in the local witherspoons pub.

Perfect, simply perfect. A whole house with two bedrooms, a large, comfortable living room, a separate dining room and a large kitchen plus a little terrace area. Everything perfectly clean and in good state. Inner town in Inverness is only 5 minutes away by foot, and the Tesco alomost next door. The best acccomodation we had on our three weeks trip to Scotland. Nice communication with the owners.

Good value, breakfast included - standard across all Holiday Inn Express properties we stayed at in Scotland. The property modern, well maintained and clean. The room was clean, the bathroom upto date and well appointed. Good shower, with good water flow. The room was of decent size even with the sofa bed opened for our group. All in all, a very satisfactory stay.

The Chieftain was amazing. From the staff, to the room, to the pub, it was all a great experience. We have been bouncing around Scotland for a little over a week and my kids think Inverness was by far their favorite place. The Chieftain had a lot to do with that.
