The Haymarket Hotel, hotel in Granton

The Haymarket Hotel in Edinburgh city centre is located down a cobbled street in the historic Haymarket area.

For our vacation, we were 3 for 340€ per night (three people). When you pay this price for 3 nights, you'd think you'd at least get air-conditioning, good soundproofing and quality wifi, since it's located in the center of the capital. Well, we were surprised to find that all these expectations were far from the hotel's ambitions. Air conditioning is absent, and from what we've heard from other French tourists, it's also not present on the second floor. It's the kind of thing you'd like to have in the months of June when the sun is out, how shall we say... all day long. As for wifi, for our part it was totally inaccessible, as was cellular network coverage in the hotel (we were placed in a room in the basement just below the bar). The kind of thing that comes in handy when you want to communicate with loved ones, share photos or watch video entertainment. We can also mention the quality soundproofing, which means we can hear the slightest footstep of the people in the bar above our heads (once again, we've come to the wrong place with the room), or the maid service that vacuums the hotel at 7am. This prevented us from both sleeping and laughing peacefully with friends in the room we'd paid for after visiting the capital. The hotel is really clean and the staff pleasant. However, at the price we paid, we remain a little dubious about the number of positive reviews for this establishment. I honestly think that air-conditioning and soundproofing are pretty important when you're staying in a hotel.

The Scotsman Hotel, hotel in Granton

Overlooking Carlton Hill, Princes Street Gardens and Waverley Station, the 4-star Scotsman Hotel was originally built in 1905. This majestic, listed building was once The Scotsman newspaper.

This is a beautiful building! It is right next to the train station and the Royal Mile. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Our room was incredible, huge and hi-tech with a push button rainhead shower and push button electronic “do not disturb “. Super comfortable and clean room and large comfy bed. Would love to stay again. Lovely restaurant too with lovely food and decor. Complimentary whisky in the room too.
