I have been twice before over the years, It's a very expensive suburb of Paris now and an interesting town which revolves around the Chateau. The Chateau is a place you must visit once in your life at least, and allow a full day or more as the grounds are huge. It's a commercial tourist trap, long queues and not enough people selling tickets though all staff are very friendly and helpful. I would have bought online but couldn't fathom the headset guide, you could add it then it disappeared at checkout. Turns out you can't and don't need to pre-order, they are available after ticket check at a desk in the entrance, no queue. You can buy tickets from Tourist Information (they have an allocation) to beat the queues. Don't take a very expensive tour, the audio gives the same information and there are plenty of signs to stop you getting lost. Fantastic place but more or less just a portrait gallery and heaven for lovers of architecture. Just stand there and wonder at the scale, opulence and grandeur of the place. Not much catering, just essentials but the catering staff will refill a water bottle for you free if you ask nicely (a bit of French is handy). Be prepared to get your elbows out as although access is limited there are a lot of people inside, be prepared to wait for pictures and be tolerant of the bored and ignorant being dragged around! Book one of the local hotels, we used the Ibis, a 5 minute walk and used a restaurant on Rue de Satory which has a good selection and just outside the gates.

Fantastic trip.
Fantastic trip. It had been on my bucket list for a long time and did not disappoint. Mercure hôtel exceptionally welcoming. Excellent breakfast.
Would definitely recommend.
The palace is of course the main reason to go to Versailles but I don’t advise visiting the inside on a Sunday. It was packed to the rafters and at time uncomfortably so.
But hey ho! I loved it all. Enjoy your trip…

Versailles is not a welcoming place for visitors.
Versailles is not a welcoming place for visitors. No taxi service, The train tour of the palace is a rip off. They make you stand in the hot sun while the entire crew of drivers take a long break for lunch. If you get off there is a long wait time before you can get a spot on another train. Large tour groups block passage to many exhibits. Signage throughout the gardens and some displays is very poor and non existent in many places. A real disappointment. The hotel staff and restaurants were all good and made our time spent with them very enjoyable.

Versailles is a quaint village with a lot of charm and character. There is a lot to see as far as history and is just beautiful! I felt very comfortable and safe. Versailles is easy to navigate and get around.

Versaille is an excellent base for a stay in Paris away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre, there was a great selection of local restaurants and a good evening vibe over the weekend.
We especially enjoyed visiting the local market which is open most days and felt it was a very safe area to wander around during the evening so ideal for lone travellers unsure where to stay in Paris. We also took the local RER train into central Paris which was easy to use and reasonably priced with a journey time of approx 40 mins, looking forward to returning to the area in the near future.

Beautiful town!
Beautiful town!
If you are visiting the palace I recommend hiring one of the golf buggies to see the gardens, you need your driving licence with you, €38/hour and €9.50 per extra 10 mins. We took our time going round, stopped at a few places for fresh squeezed orange juice (they have little carts at various locations) and paid a total of €57 which we felt was good value, everyone felt it was a real highlight, having the independence, and you also have a guide talking to you as you go round on a recording in the vehicle.
Excellent accommodation for Versailles and Paris. Host Étienne is very helpful, sends information ahead and gives a warm welcome. The appartment is situated at a very convenient location, just a few minutes from the palace and the train to Paris. With 4 people you have a double an two single beds, which was perfect for our family. Kitchen is small but complete and everything is nicely and tasteful decorated. Parking available just 100 meters away. Very good accommodation!
The hotel was in an excellent location, just a 5 minute walk to the palace of Versailles and a 1 minute walk to the train station where you can get into Paris within 25 minutes. We didn’t eat in the hotel, but there was an excellent Italian restaurant next door where we ate both nights. The rooms were quite small but they were clean and comfortable and perfectly adequate for a 2 night stay. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you are visiting Versailles.
This accomodation is just as beautiful as the pictures. It is a true hidden gem in a world of mediocrity. We are very happy that we didn't settle for just another airb&b or hotel room. The history and character of the apartment is comparable to nowhere else. The location is very, very convenient to visiting the Palace of Versailles. The proprieter, Frank, is extremely welcoming, helpful and gracious. Privacy and discretion are guaranteed.
We always stay here when we visit Versailles. I have probably stayed at least ten times over the years. The property has always been a favorite for several reasons: perfect location, you can walk everywhere; great parking; very friendly and helpful staff; great breakfast. this time, our luggage didn’t arrive in Paris with us. it was delivered the following day and the staff put it right away in our room.
From the moment we pulled up outside Hotel..it was the start of Impeccable luxury.
Your in Versailles, taking my Grandaughter to see Palace 1st time.
We felt like Royalty.
Nothing not one request is too much bother..the Staff bend over backwards to cater to everything you need.
We slept like Queens in Absolute Luxury Beds..
Come to Versailles Hotel..
Be Treated like Royalty..
Clean, quiet and secure. Great location- about a mile about from The Palace of Versailles and less than 10 minutes away from the train station -Versailles Chantiers. Excellent communication with property owner. Friendly, diverse neighborhood. Restaurants and grocery stores in proximity. Excellent for solo traveler. I would stay at this location again.
Their food was excellent but their hot chocolate was exceptional. Please try their hot chocolate with whipped cream. We can also recommend their afternoon tea - delicious! The pool was lovely.
When visiting the Versailles castle there’s a very convenient short cut back to the hotel from the gardens.
The hotel is in easy walking distance from the Versailles palace, and there are many restaurants in the streets nearby. The room was clean, bed comfortable, towels and toiletries provided. At the reception there was even lemonade and some croissants available. Staff was nice and helpful.
The location of this hotel is excellent if you are visiting the Palace of Versailles. It is also close to many restaurants, so your food choices are great.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. They even let my family store our bags while we visited the Palace after our stay.
The hotel is beautiful and is a quick walk down the road to the Versailles Palace. The staff at reception were friendly and rectified any problems we had as quickly as possible. The beds were large and comfortable and rooms are lovely.
Everything was fantastic! Clean, spacious room with fast Wi-Fi. Staff were extremely friendly and the hotel has limited, underground parking spaces for 20€/day. Location was superb, 5 minute walk to the Versailles Palace entrance.
The hotel was in an excellent situation within easy walking distance from the town and the Palace of Versailles. We were able to park for free across the road from the hotel . We enjoyed a good breakfast with plenty of variety.
Spacious appartement with two bedrooms and an great shower.
The location is ideal, right next to the RER C, that brings you to the center of Paris in less than 30 minutes and walking distance from place of Versailles
Close to the Palace, grocery store and train stations. Historic hotel on a Main Street. Easy walk from the train station Versailles Chateau. The day and night clerks were ver helpful and polite.
What a gem. Lovely staff, very clean and centrally located. Versailles as a place to stay (rather than running back to Paris) is a brilliant idea - the hotel, city and people were a delight.
For visiting the palace of Versailles, you couldn't ask for a better location. The hotel is a stone's throw from the gates.
The room was beautiful and remarkably large for the location.
