An interesting mix of old and new, well maintained and derelict buildings.
A good selection of Bars and Restaurants, some tucked away down the many small streets( with some even open on a Sunday).
Excellent location if you are visiting Magny Cours race circuit.

Like most french towns, Nevers was shabby looking on the way in. We walked around the old town and there are some magnificent buildings but the centre should be pedestrianised. It wasn't enjoyable with bin trucks, loud motorbikes, scooters and cars constantly racing up and down narrow streets. I wouldn't go back , it was a bit dirty and there is a feeling that no care or pride is there from the inhabitants

It is quite a beautiful town.
It is quite a beautiful town.
The view from Loire is nice if weather is quite impressive.
Similar impression to on bridges of Carcassonne or Mantova in Italy.
However in the same time a boring town if St Bernadette is not there. Difficult to find a place to eat.
The only place easy for someone comes from modern lifestyle is L'AGRICOLE near Cathedral.

Nevers feels like a genuinely small French city along the Loire river, with some history (the Burgundy Dukes had their family residence here), a very old central city area (it was a walled city, dates from the Middle Ages) and some lovely surprises like Cafe Velo, a delicious creperie and a first class aquatic center. Well worth the 2-hour train ride from Paris -- and probably beautiful in spring/summer!

Nevers is a large town with an historic centre.
Nevers is a large town with an historic centre. It is a busy hub for trains. There are some excellent walks along the river from the town centre. As large commercial hub there are a number of large hyper markets and all the typical shops associated with them , and also a very large new shopping centre at Marty a satellite town nearby.
We went to Nevers for a spiritual retreat and pilgrimage. It was an absolutely magical experience which will stay with me for the rest of my life. A holy place that allows for contemplation and reverence. The staff were also very supportive and informative.
Location was great with a lovely walk through the park to Nevers centre. The coach and train station were also only a short walk away.
The staff were very friendly and accommodating (it does help if you can speak French but they also speak English).
Friendly staff at the reception, cleaning lady.
Location is top, free parking in the street of the hotel.
Nevers us a calm city on the Loire with a beautiful cathedral and cosy city centre all in walking distance from this hotel
