Home to Dukes of Burgundy for 4 centuries, Dijon is a magnificent combination of colour and culture. Set on a large square with fountains, the Ducal Palace houses a fabulous fine art museum. You can climb Philippe Le Bon tower here for wonderful views of the multi-coloured tiles typical of the city’s roofs.
Equally as vibrant are the half-timbered facades in the Old Town. The best examples are in cobbled Place François Rude, where relaxed bars and cafes offer good people watching.
On a grander scale is Place Darcy whose Porte Guillaume arch faces a shady park. Dijon’s many green spaces include huge Parc de la Colombière whose central path was considered by Louis XIV the most beautiful in his kingdom. Another popular walk is along Promenade de l'Ouche starting near the hospital and ending at large Kir Lake where you can swim.
This is an evidently wealthy city, so there are plenty of places to shop, but a must-see is Les Halles market, designed by Gustav Eiffel, architect of the tower.
Don’t check out of your Dijon hotel, apartment or B&B without touching the owl on the side of Notre Dame church – use your left hand for good luck. Dijon Airport is a domestic airport, but the city is easily reached by car and train.

I'm really surprised that I haven't heard more about Dijon - it's a beautiful place to visit. The old town is crammed full of exceptionally well preserved buildings around every corner, which stop you in your tracks. The proximity of the cathedral to the surrounding medieval buildings is surreal!
Then there's the grand plaza's and marbled facades. Just walk and soak it all up. Better still, download the app and follow the owl walking tour which ensures you don't miss a thing.
There's a lovely evening atmosphere as everyone appeared to be outside enjoying a meal or drink - no matter what day of the week! It's simply friendly and relaxed - particularly around the Les Halles market area. We had great meals and weren't charged a fortune for them either.
Dijon just might be my favourite French city!

Great shopping and dining experiences in Dijon.
Great shopping and dining experiences in Dijon. Fantastic walkable city center for shopping and exploring the historic and cultural sites. The food scene is amazing with tons of amazing and creative restaurants, local options and you have to check out the big indoor market. Great options in the surrounding area for short day trips.

Loved the place.
Loved the place. First time we’ve visited and enjoyed walking round - there are free shuttle buses to take you to places in the city but much of it is pedestrianised. Good shops and restaurants and bars. Art galleries and museums. Need to check opening timing. We found people to be friendly and very helpful to us. Would revisit. Also good to visit is Beaune - a town just down the road.

We only stayed overnight. The area near Les Halles had several restaurants in different price ranges.
For guests at the Hotel Wilson, set the GPS for Place du President Wilson, not for rue de Longvic, the address of the hotel - it starts a long way out in Longvic!

Dijon is a lovely old town with layers of history and architectural styles. Numerous secret courtyards to discover accidentally. It boasts delicious restaurants from traditional French to Japanese-influenced flavors and presentation. Numerous lovely cafes and boutiques. Museum of Burgundy life was weirdly cool. Musee des Beaux Arts was mostly focused on religious to renaissance painting and a wonderful Pissaro landscape. Ended with a strong exhibituon of a contemporary female French sculptor and her partner.

A beautiful city and well worth a visit.
A beautiful city and well worth a visit. It has two cathedrals and both are most attractive inside. The main street " rue de la Liberte" is pedestrianised but be careful of the scooters and bikes which roar past you. Plenty of shops but brasseries, cafes and restaurants are not always obviously located. Choose wisely and the food and price will be excellent.
The museums are all worthwhile a visit and most are free unless there is a special exhibition.
Tourist map is fairly useless
I am happy to talk about Charles, the desk clerk who greeted us when we arrives and took a lot of time to make us aware of what Dijon could offer us in the few hours we would be in the city. He drew up maps, he suggested a restaurant, he told us of where to shop and see the sites. I am sure he had other things to attend to but he made us feel like we were a priority. Such a wonderful young man. He is the reason we enjoyed the city and one reason we are glad we stayed at the IHG hotel.
WE enjoyed the breakfast as well.
Its a two start hotel.... ( French call it three but its 2 star!). No lift. small rooms. very basic, a bit old and tired. So why am i giving it five stars? Well its value for money! if you are driving through france and need a place to sleep for the night then this is perfect. Very close to the motorway and beds are comfortable. Bathroom is old and doesnt have enough room to swing a cat... but for £50 for a twin room you couldnt ask for more. Staff were friendly and spoke reasonable english.
Very nice and helpful staff. A lot of touristic information on-site.
The room is an open space form. Toilet and bathroom with shower are separate rooms.
Fantastic location very close to the city centre.
Very easy to park your car near to hotel but you need to pay. We've stayed only for one night so we paid only by 6 pm and check out before 8 am, but if you'd like to stay longer you probably need to check the parking option in Dijon.
4 of us travelled by Motorcycle and whilst booked, I had forgotten the parking application. Parking is in a secure courtyard enclosure. A bit of a problem with expensive vulnerable bikes. However the Ladies had a reshuffle and managed to accomodate us. For this were extremely grateful and showed the type of customer focus Hotel Wilson has. This was a third time of staying here and will always use it when coming down country.
Fantastic little place to stay in the quiet part of Dijon town centre! The rooms are very stylish, clean and comfortable. Probably renovated fairly recently. A nice mixture of classic and modern. Breakfast room is gorgeous. Homemade food is delicious, especially the pies. The staff are vey friendly and welcoming. Very much enjoyed our short stay. And will look to stay with them again next time we are in Burgundy
We stayed just one night on the way back from the south of France. Hotel is really clean and comfortable. Location is excellent, right in the old city. We had just half a day in Dijon but due to such a nice location, we were able to visit old city by foot.
Parking isn't available so use parking "Trémouille". It is about 6 min walk and quite inexpensive considering the location.
- The location was fabulous - a lovely street with less tourists than in many places in the city centre;
- The apartment was impeccably clean, really nicely decorated, and with great wiews from the window;
- The place was pet friendly;
- The host was super nice and helpful;
- Overall, if we were to stay in Dijon again, we would choose the same apartment!
This was a very nice hotel in the countryside on the outskirts of Dijon. It was therefore a great location for visiting Dijon as well as bike rides in the environment. The room was clean, overviewed a quiet village street. Hosts were very helpful at all times. There was parking at the hotel, which was locked up at night, felt safe.
Outside of Dijon is a country setting. There are walking trails near by and public transportation to get you into Dijon Center. Breakfasts are plentiful. If you don't go into Dijon for dinner, there is a small restaurant very close by with excellent food. It says it is a sports bar, but the food is much better than that.
Friendly staff, great location, good breakfast buffet with a rich selection of french bakery. Hotel is situated around a small court with several parking options and an old big tree in the center. Great location with walkable distance to the Dijon Ville train station and the historical city center.
We needed a nice place to sleep for one night on our way from Denmark to Spain. The hotel is really nice. Great breakfast buffet. The beds were very comfortable and we enjoyed the air-conditioned room as it was very, very hot in France, when we were there.
Good hotel for a stopover on your way to the South of France. Free outside parking opposite to the entrance. Next to a shopping mall with a wide range of shops and restaurants. Well equipped breakfast. Relatively close to the motorway.
Very nice hotel and ideal location to stop for a rest while driving through France.
The rooms are very clean and we had the most loving welcome.
The breakfast had lots of options and was better then expected for a stop-go hotel.
Last year we picked this hotel also, because it is good for one night as a pitstop on our way to our holiday destination.
This summer we're going to southern France again, so we probably stay here again.
Great apartment in the center of Dijon. Clean, cozy, very convenient for exploring the city. Friendly and responsive hosts. Perfect for our short stay in this wonderful city.
Highly recommended!
Picked the hotel because of the close proximity to the Tesla chargers. Fantastic value for money for an overnight stop to the south of France. Will definitely return.
Great location in the centre of town, with secure parking right opposite the hotel entrance.
Food was fantastic in the restaurant, with a great choice for breakfast.
