The hotel was easy to find and the staff very friendly. In three months of travelling this was my best Value for Money accommodation and Laon was a brilliant and unexpected discovery. I would recommend a visit to the WW1 German War Cemetery - in the context of what happened in the 1930's it is very thought provoking to see young Christian and Jewish soldiers buried side by side and who obviously died as comrades in 1918.

Very clean property in a convenient location (and a great bakery just down the street). Urcel is just minutes away from Laon so a great option to staying in a big city. Chemin des Dammes historics sites just to the south.

We stayed here last year and Aga recognised us immediately. As before, she was so friendly and welcomed us to her home. Aga was really attentive and made sure that we had everything that we needed. She speaks perfect English and loves to chat with her guests.
We had her home-cooked 4 course evening meal this time, which was reasonably priced, absolutely scrumptious and portioned perfectly. All the guests eat together in the dining room just like one big family.
Breakfast was a typical French continental style with fresh breads and croissants which were delicious.
The property has a lovely garden and a large drive with secure parking. It is situated in a small rural village which doesn't have any shops or restaurants, so you would have to travel out for those if you didn't want to eat at the B&B.
The B&B is perfectly placed if you are arriving or departing from Calais or Dieppe.
L'Auberge de Vauclair is a recently renovated bed and breakfast in Bouconville-Vauclair where guests can make the most of its garden and shared lounge.

It is a perfect place to play in the near by golf. The lake is beautiful and it worth the chance for a relaxing stay. The property is welcoming and positive. However it could enjoy a better maintenance.
We have stayed at this hotel several times since 1996. It has normally been good but has gone through various iterations with different owners. I wasn't sure about returning but am so glad that we did. It is wonderful and we are hoping to go back to spend more time at the hotel and in this extremely interesting area of Picardy. The staff are lovely. The room (with balcony and view of the lovely lake) was beautiful. Dinner was the best we had on our trip in France.
Breakfast was Excellent, staff all around very friendly & helpful, super location near the lake, very comfortable & spacy rooms. Any time I'm nearby I will book this hotel !
