We stayed at Hotel du Commerce, in the center of Castellane. Very friendly and luxurious, I absolutely recommend it. The town itself was disappointing: it’s boring and the servants in the local restaurants aren’t interested and just rude. You re not welcome here, pay the bill and get lost… again, Hotel du Commerce is very fine. Otherwise, try Lac du St Croix when you want to stay for the night in the neighbourhood of the Gorges.

Market days are great a reason to get up early and walk into town, so Wednesday and Sunday(check Sunday) are good days to be around.
A walk up the well maintained path to the old church over seeing the valley is worth the effort.
One of the restaurants wouldn’t invite us to sit at 11.00a.m if we could only commit to coffee.”we are a restaurant” the owner gestures with his arms. Presumably the 3 tables with people and espresso’s that drew my attention were the owner and staff cooling their heels waiting for customers.
We found another who could lower themselves to serve us coffee. . . And stayed until 2.30 had a great meal and a few drinks while we watched Australian state of origin RL. Queensland up 20 6 at half time, ultimately lost to NSW!!

On the way to Maison Castellane from Gordes we enjoyed the scenery a lot. Our apartment has everything you need with a cozy sitting area. Our booking was for 3 nights. There's unexpected incident happened. Mr Lambert and his wife were very kind to help us through the difficult time. We're very appreciated and grateful to them.
We couldn't finish our stay and unable to visit the area. So we'll definitely come back and stay here again to finish what we haven't done.

An excellent 10 days in one of their cabins.
An excellent 10 days in one of their cabins. The staff are really friendly and all speak English which a bonus. The pool is great and surprisingly warm however I think it might get a bit busy in high season. The cabin we had was great, modern and well cared for. It is steep terraced site, so walking up the hill for bread in the morning was a challenge for me in me in my 70's but doable, if I did need a few minutes before talking to the shop assistant. Ideally located for the French Alps and the coast even if were disappointed with Cannes. Castellane is a lovely little town with everything you need. The highlight of this area is the scenery which is outstanding

My favorite places there were around the lake, enjoying the water and the boats. I also liked the walk towards the fossils of ancient see-cows. In the evening, we ate mainly at the camping; mornings I enjoyed a cup of coffee and walked to the boulangerie for a nice sandwich. I would avoid coming in July next time. It was quite hot.

logistically basing yourself in Castellane makes sense, but it's too busy even during covid and it doesn't really matter where you stay as you'll have to take a bus at beginning or end of the hike anyway; having a rental car is the best. The local bakeries make excellent croissants though. I'd not stay in castellane again, instead I'd book more in advance to stay somewhere with an amazing view and a balcony. La Bastide de Moustiers might be the best place to stay, and the food is excellent.
It's a good campground near Castellane. The chalet was spacious, had a good kitchen, good beds, a bathroom and a very nice porch with a good view. The owner is very kind and can give you good information about what to do. The gorges du verdon are beautiful.
It was an easy walk into the centre of Castellane. The staff were friendly and helpful. The swimming pool was excellent after a day of hiking in hot weather.
