Really loved the calm, clean and peaceful atmosphere of the town. Extremely clean everywhere. We loved the cathedral and would have liked to have had more time to see the Monastery- we only had time to drive out to take a look at it on our way out of Bourg-en-Bresse.
Pretty cafes and restaurants near the theatre, and lots of beautiful old buildings. We enjoyed watching everyone in the main square, where the fountains and play area for the children were. Very safe and relaxing, also as it was a pedestrian area.
One night was a bit too little time, as we only arrived at 4pm.

Nice town.
Nice town. We walked through the town on a guided tour presented the biennale of street art.
We loved the guided visit of the Monastère de Brou. And of course, lunch Chez la Jeanne was great! Dinner ( poulet de Bresse, cuisse de grenouilles) at l’auberge Bressane right across from the Monastère de Brou were fantastic.
Sunday lunch at Brasserie du theatre. Dinner at Le Beau Marché.
And a lot of walking … Great weekend.

Not much is going on in this small city.
Not much is going on in this small city. Also very hard to circulate downtown, not to mention a dire need of parking near businesses. It has a beautiful monastery worth visiting. It also has a diverse population of workers.

Abbaye de/Abbey of Brou (monastère royal de/royal monastery of Brou) is beautiful and just 1 km walking from the town center. It is one of only 80 locations granted the title of National Monuments/Monuments Nationaux and the burial side of Marguerite d’Autriche/Marguerite of Asutria (Habsburg) and her husband Philibert le Beau/Philippe the Handsome. Both are important figures in European history. Their tombs are magnificent.
The town itself is pleasant but without major points of interest. The region is nice to visit and perfect for a longer holiday.

The best place to visit is the Royal Monastery of Brou (but be aware that it closes between 12-2pm. Just 10-15 mins walk from centre of town. Really interesting historically with a wonderful art display as well.

While not really a tourist destination, when one becomes more familiar with Bourg, the village is indeed great for shopping. Many tasteful clothing/shoe shops are enclosed in and surrounded by a village which has great charm potential (lovely old architecture much of it in need of renovation and repair). Over several decades of dining at our favorite Georg Blanc restaurant, we've had the pleasure of discovering the rest of this town.

The hotel is easy to get to from the motoway. Our room was a perfect size for us and our 2 dogs plus their crates. There are very good parks very close to the hotel for dog walking. There was a good choice of options at breakfast, including fry your own eggs. We ate in the restaurant one evening as there are not many restaurants nearby. The food was enjoyable and well presented. There is a large outdoor carpark so if you have a large vehicle parking is not a problem.
The hotel has the simple elegance and easygoing charm of the fifties, and everything seemed perfect to me. You can park the car on the street right in front of the hotel entrance for as long as you want—and for free. Very nice restaurants and lots of things to see in the neighborhood, and no hectic.
Good clean budget hotel convenient to A40 motorway. Stopped on way back from skiing in French Alps and was a good place to stay for the night. Restaurant was closed but there were multiple alternatives within a 5-10 minute walk.
I booked a room about 50 minutes before I arrived in Bourg-en-Bresse. The room was clean, the staff were pleasant and the breakfast was included (unusual for France) and it was a great breakfast! Very happy with the stay overall.
