This resort is designed for families with small children, and for that it's great. I would not recommend it for any other demographic.
There are two beautiful pools (open from 8 am to 8 pm), one for kids, and one for parents with kids. The pools are for playing, although I suppose someone who gets there at 8 am would be able to swim laps without getting bonked by a large unicorn inflatable toy.
The meals are served buffet style. While the food isn't up to Club Med standards (for example), it's perfectly good and there were a few nice surprises. In any case, kids will find plenty to eat. We were on half-pension, which meant breakfast & dinner. That was plenty of food, really. One day we were allowed to trade dinner for lunch, and that wasn't a problem. No drinks (except tap water) are included for lunch and dinner. Coffee (real espresso available), tea, juices, and bottled water (both regular and sparkling) are included with breakfast. And there's a huge machine that squeezes fresh orange juice (breakfast only).
The rooms are not luxurious but are functional, clean, and comfortable, and our room (a typical family room, I think) had a bedroom for two and a living-room with a sofa / trundle bed. We have only one child, but a second child wouldn't have been a problem. There was also a tiny but useful kitchenette, complete with plates, sink, mini-fridge and cookware. The wifi is included...and mediocre.
Even though our daughter is shy, she enjoyed spending a few hours each day at the mini-club. The staff were all very friendly and engaged. In fact, I would say that about everyone who works there: friendly, helpful people. The waiters in the restaurant, the people at reception, and the concierges. The concierges helped us to organize our excursions. The one we spoke to the most (Judit), was from a nearby town and had lots of good suggestions.
The after-dinner shows were fun--and again, pretty much aimed at kids.

Good location 10 mins walk from beach, 5mins from the town's bars and restaurants and 1 (yes, 1) from Son Bou Beach Club which has a pool, sunbeds and a cafe/bar, well worth a visit. The apartment itself was a little tired in places (cupboard & wardrobe doors, floors, walls ..) BUT the important facilities were very good (walk in shower, big, comfortable bed, aircon in main bedroom, ceiling fans in other rooms, washing machine (if needed)....). At the top of the price range for this type of property we felt given the tired comments above. The host was very helpful and responsive; set up on Whatsapp and the few questions we had before and whilst on site were answered promptly and completely. Thank you Ruben.

The setting of the hotel in its grounds is beautiful. The pool is also beautiful - really lived up to our hopes. The staff were very professional and helpful. Being able to eat in each night we were there was very convenient and delicious.
Globales Lord Nelson is located in Menorca centre, overlooking the beautiful Santo Tomás. Guests have direct access to the beach.

The beach was the best thing about Son Bou.
The beach was the best thing about Son Bou. It was a glorious long stretch of sand with crystal clear warm waters. It might have been a bit choppy for small children some days but there were 4 lifeguards sited along the main strip (until 5pm).
We might have arrived a bit early in the season (18th to 15th May) but there were quite a few empty shops and no tourist office or signs up telling us what to do in the area or around Menorca. The beach restaurants were lovely but more expensive than the ones in the town. None of it was cheap though. The set menus were better value. Vegan choices were a bit limited but I'm used to that. We ended up having veg paella 3 days, spaghetti one day and pizza another.
If I were to go to Menorca again I would probably hire a car - the roads are simple and safe and it's possible to explore the whole island in a week. There were 5 of us so we had to have 2 taxis each time we wanted one. We used the buses to go to Ciutadella and Mahon; they were very reasonable and comfortable, more like coaches than buses.

This is my second review.
This is my second review. We reported a boiler or hot water tank problem at 1.30 am. It woke us and the noise and overheating plug worried us.
In the morning we had to insist to be offered another apartment by central reservations. I asked whether they had had similar problems previously. I was told not. I have just seen six other guests had reported "boiler" problems by searching the reviews. I wonder what I might find by searching "tank". Then one could try translations into various languages.
I do not appreciate being lied to!

Son bou is a fantastic place to stay.
Son bou is a fantastic place to stay. It has something for everyone. There is good restaurants of various food choices. The beach is easy to get to and it’s beautiful. We love the Kitcat Bar as they have entertainment a few evenings a week. They do a Quiz and in high season karaoke. All sports are played on the various TVs. It’s run by a wonderful friendly family and they make you feel very welcome. The food and drink is excellent too.

Food selection both for breakfast and dinner were great!
Food selection both for breakfast and dinner were great!
Hotel has a minibus that takes guests to the beach every half an hour (with a break during the lunch). This is great as the hotel is up the hill, the walk is not too long but can be challenging for some people.
Nearby beach is long and sandy, with options to rent umbrellas and sunbeds. It can be busy at times. Waves are often high, so swimming can be challenging.
There are a couple of restaurants near the beach, with reasonably priced decent food, in case you wish to dine out, but the hotel restaurant is much better.
There is a bus stop near the beach where you can get the bus to go to towns across the island, some direct and some with change. Buses don't go often, and there are very few of them on Sundays, so plan things ahead if you wish to venture out.
Daily boat trips on the island are often sold out, as there are only a couple of options available on the entire island, so it is recommended to book trips before arriving on the island, as the prices are fixed.
Renting a car can also be challenging, and it is recommended to check options in advance.
Location was great! The apartments had most things you needed. Would have liked a couple of wine glasses, but the restaurant loaned me one until I bought one myself.
Also a hairdryer would have been nice too, as most airlines restrict the amount of luggage, so an extra thing to bring out with me.
The staff were very helpful and so friendly especially check in and the onsite restaurant.
Son bou is well located and has great bars and restaurants all within walking distance.
.
The location is fabulous in the countryside with wonderful trails to walk but you are still only a short drive from the beach and nearby towns. The quality of the accommodation is excellent and so is the housekeeping. German and Cristina are wonderful hosts and the chef creates unusual and imaginative dishes; we wish we had eaten here more! We have been visiting Menorca since the 80’s and this is probably the best accommodation we have ever stayed in.
Lovely setting, well kept gardens outside and area very clean and tidy.Appartment was great for us as a base with a pool with bar/cafe just around the corner -great pizzas 😀
