Location of the hotel is perfect for la ruta del cares and others. Staff was super friendly, always kind and ready to help. Food was aammaaazing (and the cider!). I would be happy to go back there :)

Perfect accomodation for hiking la ruta del cares. Just at the starting point. Nice clean room for a good price. Friendly people. Food is delicious. Breakfast really great for 4€. You don’t need a big buffet when you get a well prepared breakfast with fresh orange juice, orange cake and bacon. And the bocadillos…hmmm. Can really recommand staying here
Hostal Poncebos is 500 metres from Bulnes Funicular Railway on the Cares Route in the Picos de Europa National Park. Rooms have free Wi-Fi and views over Cares River and the mountains.

Super, unpretentious, honest little family-run hotel on a small road and river at the foot of a staggering limestone gorge - an incredibly lovely setting, minutes on foot from the start some of the most famous and beautiful trails in the Picos. A most kind and genuine local family run it, working all the hours to provide clean rooms, an all-day bar service and a full menu of simple, tasty home-cooked dishes in their restaurant, where a full 3 course dinner with wine included for just €14 represents outstanding value. The bedroom was clean and attractive, the bed and pillows comfortable, it had the private bathroom I had booked, with a good supply of hot water, towels and toiletries. The central heating in my bedroom was good - and very welcome - too. I was very grateful to the helpful blogger (shout out to kevmrc) who first drew my attention to the Hostal Poncebos as the best place to stay for exploring this part of the Picos. I wholly agree!

Great location if you want to do the Ruta del Cares.
It’s a 10min ride from here. There are also buses from here.
The property was clean and comfortable. It had a pool which looked good, but unfortunately I never went there due to the rain.
Overall a pleasant experience.

Location is exceptional. The place is clean, confortable, staff is nice, food is good, and a lot of possibilities to hike.
Hotel La Rivera is located in Las Arenas de Cabrales, just outside the Picos de Europa National Park. It offers large rooms with satellite TV and a private bathroom.
The hostal was better than what we expected. Even if the personnel does not speak English we manage to understand and they helped with directions and map for our hike 😁The rooms and bathroom were really clean ( even the shared ones), and food was tasty.

Poncebos is a great starting point for treks in los Picos.
Poncebos is a great starting point for treks in los Picos. The funicular train up to Bulnes is here as is the path that goes up to Bulnes. You can also start the Cares gorge walk here. This is one of the most beautiful walks in Spain and accessible to all ages.
This hostel has an excellent location for hiking. The roads are packed with cars, so it's nice to wake up and already be near the trails. It is very comfortable with great rooms and beds. Bathrooms are shared, but there are plenty and they are very clean and spacious. Breakfast is provided and the restaurant serves lunches, tapas and dinner as well. There are buses scheduled from Arenas de Cabrales to Poncebos; the bus stop is a 5-10 min walk from the hostel depending on how much luggage you are carrying.
best location we could find for the starting/end point of the Ruta de Cares. breakfast and dinner were available on site, and they had a cute bar. this was key, since you would have to drive to get to a restaurant. safe parking was included in price. we parked close to the trailhead and did the hike. my friend and i split up, which was no problem logistically, since i was able to walk back to the hotel, and did not need the car to get there.
Perfect location: a 5 minutes walk to the Ruta del Cares and the Funicular Poncebos-Bulnes.
Very friendly staff: the warm hospitality and willing to help outweigh the lack of English.
Super clean rooms and very tasty dinner at the restaurant (Vegeterians - the kitchen is very flexible to amend any dish on the menu, but make sure to specify no tuna as well. Solo con verduras. No atún.
Wonderful location! On Ponchos channel/ Cares river, very close to the start of the Rita del Cares trekking route;
Also trekking to Camarmena just from the hotel is really nice (ending on wonderful viewpoint with peak Urriellu view); In addition, trek to Refugio Vega Urriellu is highly recommended;
The staff was helpful (even without English-speaking)
The location for hiking the trails is perfect, the setting for the hotel breath taking.
The property is called a hostal but we found it more like a 3 star hotel with our on suite room.
The staff were amazing, the food local and so fresh and amazing value, I would recommend this property to anyone looking to stay in the area.
The manager spoke very little English and we spoke even less Spanish, but that really didn't matter. He did everything he could to make us feel welcome. The hotel is in an excellent location for going walking. The service was a bit erratic but excellent when it happened.
The family who runs this small low-key hotel are wonderful. The rooms are small and simple, but the location is perfect for parking and day hiking and the hosts very warm. We also enjoyed the lunch of the day which was a great deal.
The location was incredible, a 5-10 minute walk from a couple beautiful trails in el parque de los picos. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. The staff was kind and helpful. I highly recommend hostal poncebos.
We keep coming back to Hotel Garganta since our first visit there in 2016, and that tells it all! It's like our second home. Can't wait to come back there next year again! Sending much love to Irene, Paco and Flippi!
Very helpful staff. Good value meals during the day and in the evening. The room was cleaned every day. It is a hostal and not a hotel. What you get is clean good value rooms and food served by helpful staff
The hotel is well situated in Poncebos at the start of the hiking trails. It's possible to leave the car. The hotel is really clean and the staff is very nice. The food is good and inexpensive.
The location was perfectly situated for hiking the ruta de cares, no need to drive. There was also 1 1/2 hr round trip hike right behind the hotel. A clean basic rustic hotel.
