Matalbaniega is itself a peaceful hamlet surrounded by beautiful countryside. You could just sit and enjoy the peace and quiet, and watch the many birds, especially the storks . However we found it a great central location for exploring the region. There are the gorges from Sedona travelling north along the N623,
There is the route of the menhirs north of Aguilar de Campo, there is also the Nacimento del Rio Ebro at Fontibre and Poblado Cantabro an excellent recreation of an Iron Age Celtic settlement at Argueso.
There are amazing ruins of a roman villa ( La Olmeda) at Saldana.
There is Aguliar de Campo itself and of course the surrounding mountains .
