We visited with my parents and our dog for a weekend in the hills. The layout is ideal for two couples as each have their own ensuite room at either side of the living room/kitchen area. Small village with no shop (that we could find) but with lovely 20 minute walks to slightly larger villages on either side.

Irtumendi is a small, traditional town next to wonderful hiking, but with quick access to the highway and many restaurant/tavern options very close. I chose it because of its centrality in the Sakana valley and proximity to Urbasa natural park as well as Aizkorri-Aratz. The parking is free, and the neighbors will lay you some eggs for your breakfast if you ask nicely.
